Replacing motor mounts

Post by raa1144 »

Hi All. I just replaced the front left Trans mount on my 2001 Bonnie because it was trashed and the engine was bouncing around. Luckily that is the easy one. Now I am planning on replacing the other 3 mounts. My question is can I do them one at a time or should I do all at the same time. And is there any particular order they should be done. Are there any videos on how to do the right side. TIA

The front one is what usually causes issues. What makes you believe you need to replace the others?

While the new trans mount made a big difference, it still feels a little "soft" compared to 4 years ago when the car had 45000 miles. Now it has 102000 and I just think that after 15 years the mounts probably should be replaced.

Understandable. Does the drive train feel like it's still moving around? Rough shifts?

Yes. There still is a little movement and slightly rough shifting. I replaced the right side mount this week. I didn't realize that the engine hangs off the 2 side mounts. It helped a little more. I will replace the lesft side trans mount next week then the rear center trans mount. I suspect the rear trans mount could be the source of the problem. If the problem still isn't fixed after all the mounts are changed I will start looking at the CV joints.
Do you have any other ideas?

You might be experiencing the max adapt shift code (P1811). Do your rough shifts occur when the car is warm? A shift kit cures the issue, and is easier to install than the mounts.
