Double din?
Double din?
What are the steps to put in a double din in? How custom is the job? And do I have to do something to the stock Bose amp?

Re: Double din?
It requires trimming inside the dash. It also requires a custom mounting kit. Haven't figured out what car I'm using a dash kit out of yet. It also requires modification to the dash bezel. I'm doing this mod now, so I should have a write up on it soon. As for the stock Bose amp, a new head unit will work with it, but without your Bose head unit you're not living up to full Bose potential. A few people will chime in on the Bose situation. SSEiman and Wake know a little more about Bose.

Re: Double din?
The Bose for the 97-99 is different than the newer models. My Kenwood unit worked just fine with the stock amp, and didn't sound too bad either.
It's been done before, though it will take a lot of custom molding (or remolding) of the factory stereo surround to make it look good. Too bad DIN 1.5 really isn't supported much.

2005 GXP - White Gold Pearl, no mods...yet.
2000 SSEi - Resurrection in progress. Built L67 w/L32 fuel rail, ported heads, and cam. Camaro front brake system, GXP cluster, and much more in planning.

Re: Double din?
00/01 Bose can be a picky animal in terms of aftermarket components combined with Bose. The older ones are less picky. Which is why I left mine all Bose. If you can find a 1.5 DIN, that would be great. I had a 1.5 DIN in my 94 LeSabre, which is now in my 85 Trans Am. It is a Pioneer 45w x 4 headunit. Originally a $4-500 HU.

Re: Double din?
This^^^ I'm trying to figure out an easier way to get this done. I got a few ideas in mind, but nothing I wanna throw out there until I see how it comes out.sandrock wrote:It's been done before, though it will take a lot of custom molding (or remolding) of the factory stereo surround to make it look good.
