Mods necessary to drop in used L32 from GP in place of L67

Talk about modifications, or anything else associated with performance enhancements. Have a new idea for performance/reliability? Post it here. No idea is stupid! (please use Detailing and Appearance for cosmetic ideas)

Mods necessary to drop in used L32 from GP in place of L67

Post by 67goat »

In another thread, I'm debating about an engine rebuild. In this one, question I have is whether the Series III engine with the Gen V SC out of a '06 GP would require any major mods (of course I'd use the bonneville exhaust system) -

Will my existing PCM work?
Do I need to swap wiring harnesses? Other sensor issues, etc.? Would hate to pick up a used one only to find I'm missing what is necessary for the swap.

I don't know a whole lot about. But I do know you'll need your own PCM and wiring, and a way to mount your throttle body. The L32 has an electronic throttle, and I don't believe your TB will mount up properly to the supercharger inlet. What other sensors do or don't cross over will be better left answered by someone else.

you need to get an adaptor for the TB.. IIRC ZZP sells them. Also you need the G-body mounts and swap it all over. I believe like mentioned above you will want to run the L67 harness/ecu. Most of your sensors will be the same, the L32 has a external Maf the L67 MAF is part of the TB. The L32 has a little more efficient SC (Gen V vs Gen III) so you may want to tune it a little cause the ECU is still tuned for the Gen III, but should work still). the motor is basically the same block so everything should physically swap straight over. the GP guys swap L32's in place of the L67 quite often, your biggest thing would be getting the mounts and stuff swapped over from the W-body to G-body.

Shane, Bonne is H-Body, just to clarify.

Like he said, you'll need the Northstar Throttle Body and 6.0L MAF, and the wiring and a PCM tune, to run the Gen V. Alternatively, your LIM and S/C will bolt onto the SIII and it's a direct swap, once you change the mounts and accessories.

Great - thanks guys. Great to know my existing wiring will work. Will get back to you if I have more questions. Looking for a reasonable engine now. Not much locally available - most have over 60k miles and in the $1500 range. The is a low miler in AZ, but the shipping might kill me.
