Homemade Actron CP9110 cable for '95 Bonneville

Got a heckuva deal on a new obsolete CP9110 Actron Scan tool with a bunch of other goodies for $89 from tradervar.com.

It will only do OBDI, but Heck, that's all I got! Problem was, I could not get it to work with my '95 Bonneville. The cable I got from Actron ("OBDII 3.0") would not communicate with my OBDI system.

I would tell you to get an Actron CP9110 scantool (they don't make them anymore but there are still some around ) The only problem tho is that the OBD2 cable CP9115 is very hard to come across... You'd be hard pressed to find one... I have this tool with the CP9115 cable... Had it for 4 years I think...
Well, I could not find a CP9115 cable anywhere, so I spent some time with the service manuals for the '92 and the '95 and cables I had for my new CP9110 and figured out a cheap fix. First you get a six-inch long Actron OBDII 3.0 cable for about $15. I believe this cable is the one currently used with the newer CP9145 tool (you can verify, Don) Then you cut it in half. Go find some four conductor cable (I used telephone wire, but I would have liked something a bit heavier) and splice as shown below.

Don't know if it will work with all '95s and '94s, but it works like a charm with mine!

Hey Bill:

I've been making the "Buttermore/slug" CP9115 knock-off cable for a year now for members with CP9110 scanners and 94-95 OBD1.5 diagnostics. Works great except for one or two instances where owners have gotten replacement computer or ROM chips from salvage. I was hoping you would have noticed :) . It's the same schematic you described above.

Your post looks like the same one from about three years ago. Almost like a time-warp due to the recent changes in the Bonneville forums.

PM me if you're actually in a quandry about this. You are my OBD1.5 guru!

No problems, Slug. I just brought that post of mine over from BC, as I wanted to make the schematic readily available here, and was too lazy to write a new post! :sleepy1:

I was unable to find an OBD2 cable anywhere locally when I needed it most. Any suggestions, or does any one have one made already?

You have to back up a bit and give us more information. You're replying to kind of an old post from Bill Buttermore that he reposted to give members the schematic for OBD1.5. Do a search for "slug" and you'll find some additional information.

If you're looking for the 16 pin OBD1.5 (Actron CP9115 knock-off) cable for 94-95 Bonnevilles/compatibles, I've been making those at cost for members. That's the one that connects the Actron CP9110 scanner and Actron CP9111 GM cartridge all together to 94-95 Bonnevilles.

Otherwise, you can get cables online from certain companies with names that have OBD and .com in them (sorry I forget the actual addresses, but they're easy to find in a Google search). But you will have to do the diligent surgery  .

So how much is cost for one. I have that scanner and cartridge and I use it on my 93, but recently I needed to scan my 95 and was not able to find a cable locally. If I can squeeze it out of my check on Friday I will take one.

I purchased the Actron III scanner and built the CP9115 cable per your schematic.
It did not work for my Chevy S-10 truck. I discovered that my truck is really ODBII and works with modern scanners.
So I am putting the scanner, GM cartridge, Ford cartridge and Homemade CP9115 cable up for sale on eBay.

Check Ebay by searching for CP9111. This stuff is supposed to work on the 95 Bonneville. Actron gave me this company's phone number and they also sell direct. Their number is 866-553-8116. They explained they have a lot of these cartridges and cables which they bought out from Actron and so they are selling them for only $5. I ordered one and I hope it works!

The telephone number 866-553-8116 is operative and they have seven (7) CP9116 Actron cables in stock as of April 30,2012. They cost $5 plus $4.95 for shipping. Priority Mail is $3 more. You can buy an OBD II cable for adaptation from Amazon for $10.
