92 Bonneville SE - Northern Illinois

Bought it for about 800 dollars over 3 years ago, just turned 180,000 miles,so i feel my investment has been well worth it. Minor issues with engine components, looks solid for the most part. minor rust over the right rear wheel, minor dings and scratches. replaced almost any exterior piece you could name, swapped a fiberglass "window out for an actual window :P all pillars have been replaced to keep the glossy continuity. both marker lights have been swapped, headlight casings as well. Added the spoiler, looked odd without one. got a nice oem cd player with red light up display for 15 bucks, swapped out the 'woodgrain' molding which had a crack around the radio/steering column with an all black one, made the interior flow better. Rear speakers, i believe came from a trans am, so they are the BOSE cones, nice bassy sound (Not sure about the integrity of that statement, as they were sitting on an overhead shelf for at least 10 years in our garage). have replaced chrome strips around entire top of car, lucky to have found decent ones in the junkyard. also added the passenger side mirror, as a lesabre mirror was there when i bought it. one rectangle and one oval looks a little odd :P

The car enjoys messing with my mind, hot days let the engine flutter, and often will kill itself with the knock sensor, cam sensor issues, and oil sensor likes to peg the gauge at 120. Does NOT burn oil, love the car to death, probably going to give it to my father as a gift once i clean it up some more. Front and rear chrome moldings were trashed when i got them, peeled all plastic and chrome out of them, just so it was still solid colors. drivers door molding is detached, unsure if clips are broken.

am in the process of fabricating my own headliner, looking into an sse/ssei front bumper, crosslaced wheels, and, if possible, sse/ssei taillights. possibly a resonating tip to give some better tone. Needs entire new exhaust anyways, also broken engine mount in back, so it rattles when it rests on the frame. Interior headliner currently looks like a couch cushion, and both interior overhead light/handles have been broken thanks to my father, self proclaimed as the "only one in the shop who doesnt break interior clips." only my car i suppose, as he was the culprit for the woodgrain radio molding and the handles. going to snag a driver side molding asap

Aren't those stupid a-pillar trim pieces a pain the first time you deal with one?

Looking forward to your progress. Any before/during/after pics would be appreciated by all. Welcome to the forum!

Thanks! And the pillars arent too bad, just had to get the weather strips off which wasn't difficult, (given my 10 or so years working with my dad [mechanic in the chicago area] on all of our cars, i've picked up some tricks :P ) but, the pain in my butt was trying to get those suckers off of cars at a junkyard with windows up. I got lucky on the passenger side front one, in that i found it with a window that was partially open and had a friend just push for as much room as possible to get it out. I will throw up some more pics of the car soon, as i, at first, disliked the car and never thought it would last this long. turns out it runs like a charm, every once in a while drops a cylinder but a little rap once the engine cover is off keeps her purrin' :D

Thanks! and anybody have any suggestions as to what exhaust tips are the best in your opinions? This is probably the one area i have no faith in myself choosing :P

Welcome to the Community!

If you're going to be doing the SSE/i bumper conversion (First I'd suggest do all the SSE/i trim or none, as the bumpers won't line up with the door trim otherwise) I'd get a trapazoidal/rectangular or an oval tips to fit the cutout in the SSE/i bumper. Otherwise you could get a pair of dual round tips. You can't really go wrong, unless you get a coffee can sized tip, lol.

You've got a bit of a project on your hands it sounds like. Can't wait to see the progress on this one!
