In my front doors...
I've seen it done, I know it can be done...seen some pictures before somewhere of a piece of wood fabricated to mount the speaker too in the door. Anyone have a link or instructions? Otherwise I'll just got at this blindly and make it work. I got Alpine SPX-17REF speakers, 6.5" component setup with crossovers, which I'll also be trying to fit into the door (This should be fun)
How do I fit 6.5" speakers?

I've not seen it done myself in a Bonneville, but I've heard about it, and it's really not that big of a deal as far as I know. The wood ring I believe is simply a spacer. The 6.5" speaker will not sit down flush into the stock opening, but if you use a spacer (probably 3/8" or 1/2"), you can still mount the speaker without making the hole in the sheet metal any bigger. The door trim should still have plenty of room to go back on without issue.

Normally the speakers mount into the plastic door panel as-is. Now they'll have to sit on the door somehow.

I have that set in my car, but mine's an 02 so I'm not sure if it's different. I mounted them from the front of the panel, but behind the factory grill. I had to trim a bit with a dremel.
I'm pretty sure the woofers are 6.75" as well.

Re: How do I fit 6.5" speakers?
Yeah an 02' Bonneville is quite different. It'll be a few days before I install these, probably attempting Monday. Gonna get a lot of wire because the signal from the radio will be going to the trunk where the crossovers will be, then double sets from the crossover to each front door. Reason being is an amp will be going in the trunk eventually for all 4 speakers, so instead of doing work twice, I'm going to make sure everything is installed into the trunk ready to go when I get the amp. Should sound reasonably good, SPX-17REF speakers
If they sound good enough, I'll be getting a 2nd set for the rear and fitting them in where the 6x9's go most likely.

I'm not 100% sure but I think making the crossovers be that far from the speakers is gonna mess with the signal its sending the speakers..

Let me tell you if your gonna do it then use the spacers. I did it to my 96 that is now gone but it was a pain. I went to start cutting to make the hole big enough to mount them only to find out that there are metal frames in the door panel for the speakers to be held. Needless to say i jacked up one door panel and had to fiberglass it back together.ChilinMichael wrote:In my front doors...
