Ive seen a few people on here that have the honeycomb grill in the front of their hood painted chrome/silver, i was looking to do the same thing. How do you go about that? is it removeable? and whats a good paint to use on it?

After reading this one, I had to go look at my grill. It is black, car is silver. I look closer and see that the black is overlaying silver. I scratched a little off with my fingernail and silver was underneath. Not sure if that is factory but I think it was. So maybe its not a matter of painting, but paint removing? It would be easier to paint it though.

lol yea. i was thinking maybe tape it off and try to paint it but its such a hard area to get into and i dont really want to remove the entire hood for such a tiny detail....

you dont need to remove the hood, just the grill, its just a few screws that hold it on. Then mask off what you dont want painted and spray the color of your choice.
us guys with 2000+'s have the honeycomb section alone that pop out.

Duplicolor enamel worked for me on my 94 Bonneville. There are a couple of struts that attach the grill to the hood along with a couple other smaller bolts. It was a snap. You have to work at it to get the paint down and around in the vanes that go back from the front of the honeycomb.
I've been thinking about painting just the leading edge of the honeycomb white and keep the rest of it black.

I was looking at it and wondering how much it would really be noticeable, the grills are easier to see on the 92-96 grill style, its a little bit bigger. the 99s are a little bit back further and not as easy to see i think......

That's interesting. If the grills are sometimes interchangeable for different models.

I used 'Steel It' stainless steel paint, I had it at work. Gives a good machined look, I can post a pic if you want. Has stood up well to a year and a half of weather.

yea if you could post a pic thatd be great....
speaking of the interchangable grills, i was wondering.....are the actual HOODs from all years (92-99) interchangable? I dont see much difference in them, except the grills are a little different and the earlier ones have the chrome ring around the front. Ive been wondering this for some time.....
