When gasoline goes to 15% ethonal

Chat about all things Bonneville (and related cars). Off-topic stuff should be in the lounge, and all mechanical problems should be posted in the proper forum.

Bsan, Heet is methanol. It's designed to absorb moisture and transform it into a chemical that will go through fuel systems w/o damage.

And SacramentoE85, a troll is someone who only pops in to push their agenda or cause trouble. 39 posts over 2 years, almost all about how E85 is going to save us - Troll. 9500 posts over the same time, helping out members with their own issues - Productive member of this forum. When you actually chip into helping further this forum, and not just preach Ethanol, then I might respect you. Until then, you're the troll.

And Ethanl has less energy per unit than Gasoline, so your comments above regarding performance and efficiency have no merit in a scientific world. Where you get your information is beyond me, but I suggest taking a physics class at a local college.

Willtedsquash, still, talk to them. The ones I talk to use it in the everyday vehicles and FFV's also. They like it. And they keep their money in our economy, and provide American jobs, versus foreign oil.

A+ in physics, 2 masters degrees. Scientists and their research confirm what I have found, that fuel economy is decreased less than what would at first be thought. More kinetic energy is provided per BTU.

Here is an interesting development with the new Buick Regal FFV (available now) that over time should squash the concern about fuel economy anyway.

http://www.autoblog.com/2010/05/03/all- ... this-fall/

"...combining direct injection and turbocharging will allow the new engine to get much closer to the volumetric fuel efficiency of gasoline while running on ethanol. Until now, normally aspirated flex-fuel engines typically have gotten about 15 percent worse fuel efficiency on ethanol. The Regal engine should cut that deficit to the mid-single digits and future versions should be just about even."

I don't seek your respect. My first experience on this forum demonstrated that if some of the Moderators/Administrators have opposing opinions, one will not get their respect. It is an experience that is not unlike other forums, though with much more tenacity on this one I must say--too bad for new contributors that would provide a more full discussion. When there is a topic on here that I run across that I know much about, I contribute. Ethanol is my expertise. Call me what you want; I hope others find my contributions informative.

300,000+ miles, still in the family, mostly stock with few exceptions (tires, tranny, battery, alternator).

Your autoblog quote isn't fact. It's marketing from a product manager.

There's no proof still! Ethanol makes more sense in a boosted/high octane setup, but NOT in a normal non-FFV car.

THese are facts with anyone who's a car enthusiast.
Non-FFV cars are not designed to work with a lot of ethanol, newer cars handle it better, but most shouldn't have more than 10%, it voids the warranty for a reason.
Everyone gets worse mileage and performance on e10 vs straight gasoline, clammoring how bad gasoline is nowadays is just
E30 doesn't magically work better than E10 in non-ffv vehicles.

Provide real hard data and you'll get respect. Otherwise, Your bias is painfully too obvious and quite annoying. Constantly posting something doesn't make it true.
