So you know the temp of the intake air.

You could put it in the coolant reservoir and know how hot that thing is.

These cars already have an intake air temp sensor. And I would think that moving it to the coolant reservoir may damage it because it's meant for air, plus the temperature of the coolant in there can be changed by many factors, making the temp readout useless, unless you just want to see what it is.

Just a question that Don mentioned. Has the car been setup for the 180* thermo with HPTuners??? Even with the 180* in there, the fans wont kick on until the factory setpoint and that is quite High.

even with all the Intercooler BS I have in front of my car I never have seen over 185* in the traffic on the hottest day ever.

The car has the fans set to correspond for the 180 tstat. I think I put what I have in the tune, which is Fan 1: 185* and Fan 2: 190*.

I switched it to what the limo had back in the day. But yes, both the 96 and 97 PCM I have have the same tune written to them.

Wait, you've never moved the external temp sensor around just to see what kind of readings you would get?

I have software that allows me to read IATs with the factory sensor in the intake. What more would I need?

Dude, the external temp sensor only affects the HVAC and its readout. It has NO bearing on the radiator fans, those are run off of the coolant temp sensor that's in the head, which tells the gauge what to tell you. Putting the external temp sensor in the coolant tank would be A) Stupid, as you'd melt it, and B) Be useless, because you're already getting that information from the gauge. Also, these cars have an Intake Air Temp sensor in the intake tubing that is a parameter readable by any scan tool, so you basically made 2 redundant sensors, and have no idea what the outside temp is. Please stop unless you have something productive to contribute to this discussion.

I'm glad that someone as high and mighty as you finally came to set the record straight about putting the external temp sensor in the coolant tank. That's what I've been doing wrong all these years. Thanks for the clarification. If it wasn't for people like you all us dumb people wouldn't know what to do. Thank you. High and mighty. You finally arrived.

You know a lot of you guys got a real superiority complex about this stuff. I know that, I was joking. I hope to god that someone wouldn't do that. I just hope that you guys understand that you can use that free sensor sitting up there to do what your hundred dollar scan tool can do for the same purpose. Maybe not everyone can afford that tool, and I was just pointing out that there's a free way to do the same thing. Sorry for bothering you, and everyone else. Putting people down for throwing some random advice in there isn't cool. Dude, you know nobody is going to put that thing in the coolant tank. You make me ashamed to be a car enthusiast.

That's how you made it sound buddy. Please correct me if your 6 posts talking about the external temp sensor were some sort of code that we were supposed to decipher, or just you trolling.

My problem is when some kid comes on this forum looking for real honest advice, then reads posts by you and has no idea whether you're a mechanic or a troll and tries that kind of thing, then we have to deal with the consequences...

Also, anyone with a smartphone can buy a $15 OBD 2 adapter for their bluetooth off ebay and scan and read/erase codes.

Who's trolling? I thought it was a good idea. No joke. It worked for me, I figured I would just throw a joke in there. No harm no foul.

Also, your automatic climate control won't work if it doesn't get accurate outside air temperature readings. Furthermore, IATs aren't something that is that important to monitor on these cars at stock or near stock levels. KR is more important along with trans temp. Now don't go putting the external temperature sensor in your trans. :P
