After hearing so many older guys regret selling their first "real car", I questiong whether I'll ever sell it. I obviously have way more into it than its worth. I'll keep dropping engines and trannys into it until it falls apart.

Probably another few years while I save up to buy a fuel-sipper, and hopefully to get into something new that is just as practical. I've dealt with most of the major issues on mine, so it's time to keep it on the road while saving for a new car that gets much better efficiency than my LeSabre while offering the same level of practicality. Then it'll likely hang around as a winter beater and comfy tow machine for a 1-ton boat.

My LeSabre just got to be too much of a handful and I had to sell it at 167,500 miles. I do miss it, but I don't regret selling it for a moment. It was the right decision.

Currently I'm saving up for a new (08+) Buick, Cadillac, or Infiniti. Considering others too but those are my favorites, looking for something relatively quick and comfy.

Wow... It seems like everybody is attached as I am. I'm still trying to talk family members in to buying mine as I know my uncle wants a weekend car and the Bonneville would be a little more comfortable then his Cobalt. I hate to see it go and be beat to hell by someone after the way it was taken care of it's whole life. But as for the BMW, I planned it all out. They are only in the 14-20k range for that body style right now. Which I can afford the payments on at my McDonalds job right now. Even through I won't be there for more then another 6 months as I've got multible better paying options right in front of me. And as for the insurance not as much as you would think. My family already owns 5 cars. None us have ever been in accidents, and we have so many discounts. I'm also the primary driver on an 87 Jeep Wrangaler but I am insured to drive any of our vehicles. So it will only be a small increase. I've done my research, but I really appreciate everybodys concern. I have to say this is the most caring forum I've ever been on!

Oh, and yes I pay for everything myself.

I equated a 2% intrest, but probably will be more, 36 months(standard loan) is almost $400/month. Or you can drop is $100 for a 4 year loan.

Car price was calculated as $14000, which Im assuming is high in the miles and then you have to start worrying about maintenance costs for a BMW.

As attached to the Bonneville as I am, I know it wont last more than a few years longer. Like Bill said, nothing drivetrain related (shouldn't as much time and effort that went into it), but the wind noise is horrendous, the interior rattles, and it's overall just starting to show its age. Still a good car, runs like a champ.

The SS....yeah...that's going at first opportunity. It's only saving grace is the LS4 and the way it handles.

The Grand Prix...it's served us well in the past, and continues to do so. It's getting time to do some PMs on it, but it's the first car out of my fleet that I'd keep.

The Suburban...well...at least its engine will be worth keeping.

A lot longer then 4 years. But I will pay it off earlier as the years go on. I plan on taking a personal loan out instead of car loan. Which I can take out for longer at a higher interest rate. Around 7%. I'm looking at BMW in the $17s with around 75,000. Talk them down a $1000, between the down payment and selling the Bonneville I'm around $14 after taxes and such.

Just so you know, a Bimmer with 75k is probably going to need $1k a year in maintenance, minimum. They are not cheap at all, and if you don't live near a dealer, you had better find someone who knows how to work on them.

I am one of those guys that says: "shouldn't have sold my first car". Well my first car was the 93 Grand Prix GTP, got it in fall of 2006. The 91-93 GTP was a car I had admired while growing up and I almost couldn't believe I found the one I did considering the facts; For one the car was 13 years old and looked like brand new, it was all stock, and less than one percent of the GP coupes for 93 were GTP's I felt like I had one of the only ones in northeast Wisconsin, lol. As much as I enjoyed that car, I always had that urge to own a different kind of car for a change. I wish I could have had the means to keep it forever but it just wouldn't have been a practical thing to do when it came down to reality.

Not too long after I sold it, it really sunk in just how much I liked that car; I was practically ready to buy it back, of course that's no longer an option since its been smashed up. I do look at it now as just a 93 GP with over 137,000 miles on it, and not free of rust. I'm over it now. I do hold on to the trophy that the car recieved when I put it in its first car show.

Would you happen to be anywhere near Cadillac, MI? That's where my Fiance is from, and if you're selling in a couple years, I might want it!

As for me, I intend to make one grand project out of a 92-99 that I keep FOREVER!!! HAHAHAHA!!!! And I'll probably get another one and keep it fairly stock as a DD.

The 97 was at 350K+ and was going to 600K and beyond.......till it was taken off the road by another driver. It may yet get back on the road......

Did you ever ask yourself why a $80k+ vehicle is going for less than 1/4 it's original price? If you want to get a BMW, go get a nice condition E36 for half the price, or E46 330 or an M3 if you really wanna go out.

This. Personal loan at a higher interest rate? This is about as bad a financial move as an 18 year old can make. It also screams of someone trying to be flashy in a car, and then has nothing else going on.

I agree. Don't get your dream car when you're 18. Get it when you're 48 and have spare money rolling around in your pocket. Get something reliable, cheap to own and cheap to insure that you can get a good deal on and get a loan w/ low interest. Getting a personal loan with 7% interest when you will be going into college is one of the worst financial moves you could do.
