Is this a normal or reverse thread? Lefty loosy/righty tighty or lefty tighty/righty loosy.

I had a pulley explode months ago, and I'm finally getting around to fixing it. I have already sheared off 2 brand new high quality T50 torx bits. I just bought a propane torch and plan to heat it up good before cranking on it.

I need to know 100% what way this bolt comes out. "I think" just isn't going to cut it. Thanks

That is not a regular bolt. It is a reverse thread so it will loosen by spinning to the right.
One suggestion -find a W-body and get that bolt off one of them -they have a regular bolt head to mate with a 15mm socket.

So the torx head is reverse and the 15mm is regular?

#3 and #9 will have the same thread, #8 will be the reverse of those two. So with the tensioner being reverse thread then #8 is a normal thread.

So its easily dictated by the belt path? Whatever way the pulley spins is the way the bolt tightens?

Use the torch, get it red hot, and take a candle to the head of the bolt, and and melt some of it into the bolt. It will wick down the threads, and the wax acts like a penetrating lubricant.

The threads are not even close to exposed like that. The head of the torx bolt is almost an 1" big. Then there is the pulley bearing with broken plastic everywhere.

Got it nice and hot... then pop.. sheared the bolt off. *dang*. Now I need a new tensioner assembly.

It appears that only Marty knew what he was talking about here. I brought the tensioner assembly to my Dad's shop today to see if we could drill the old bolt out. It turns out it was reverse thread. We managed to get the bolt out, and I have a new bolt on order ($5).

Kind of frustrated with the incorrect answers I received, cost me a lot of time and energy.

In fact, when getting a quote to replace the idler pulley #8 at the dealership (just for kicks) they said they don't replace that pulley -- they replace the whole assembly. I guess they can't get that bolt to let loose either.
