steering wheel bearing

Any one know where I can buy a bearing that goes inside the steering wheel column. The steering wheel has a ton of play in every direction, and is starting to scare me when I push against the wheel to help get my momentum to get out of the car. The bearing sits right behind the turn signal canceling mechanism. I called the dealer and local auto parts stores in the area, no one can get ahold of this so called bearing.

Might be easier to swap the whole column, or to go to the wreckers and see what it takes to get to the bearing and see if there are any numbers on it. It could be an off the shelf item.

Have you checked the bolts in the tilt-wheel housing? (I mean the ones the connect the tilt wheel mechanism to the base of the column.) They work loose and allow the steering wheel to flop around in all directions.

If the bearing that support the short shaft & steering wheel has gone bad, it's a common size. Take the column apart and seperate the tilt-wheel housing, press the bearing out of the housing. Around the lip of the bearing is a number with the bearing dimensions. That can be matched up by any place that sells bearings.

Yah, I was inside the column last weekend to replace the cylinder switch and ignition switch. The process of putting the columing back together, the inner race of that bearing came apart, and I couldn't get the bearing to go back together. I will press that bearing out and go on the hunt. Thanks for the help

Take the bearing with you, or search online with the number off it and you'll find all the cross referenced makers. Timken, NTN, and a few other actually make the bearings everybody uses. I get mine locally from a place called "Miller Bearing" in Daytona. Check your yellow pages and you'll probably find a few places that deal in bearings who can hook you right up...otherwise, the UPS man will come to you

I'm located in South Bend Indiana, home of Notre Dame football! I'm alittle ashamed to be called a fan after the past seasons we have had!
I was hoping that the bearing wasn't pressed in, was thinking that the spring alone kept that bearing in place. I didn't really fool with it all that much to find out.

Hey same song, 2nd verse,,,Does anyone know which pin on the PCM is circuit 229 for my 94 ssei? I don't know where the BCM or TDM is located on this car, figure it will be just as easy to intercept circuit 229 right at the PCM to inject that square pulse signal from my signal generator. Trying to eliminate ALL possiblities why this car turns off anytime it wants to, without any warning. I'm not a fan of any sytem on the car instructing it to shut off
