Water in my trunk...

Yesterday I took delivery of my late uncle's 2002 Bonneville SE.
It has 37,000 miles and is in great shape.
That is except for the water in the trunk. I was doing a general
inspection of the car when I lifted the trunk mat it was wet.
So I removed the spare tire cover and found the tire well was
full of water. I got out the shop vac and got all the water out
and wiped everything dry. Tried to use the shop vac to remove the
water in the trunk mat also.
I looked at a lot of things in the trunk to see if I could find an
entry point for the water. Nothing jumped out as being "bad" and
the deck lid seal looked fine and not hardened or cracked.

Any ideas? Anyone else with this issue? Was there a good fix?

The reason I am overly concerned is that I will be running a computer
setup in my trunk. The inverter will sit in the trunk also. So it's
neccessary for me to not have too much moisture back there or I'll
have a larger mess to deal with.

Any ideas or fixes would be great...thanks

Off the top of my head, the spoiler mounting holes, trunk seal, taillight housings and one other one that I can't think of at the moment are all the potential culprits.
Best to get inside it and have someone run water on the trunk. It took the dealer 6 return visits when my car was new before they finally got it fixed.

Yea since I posted this thread I have been digging around and found a
few threads (really there are more than a few) about water leaking in to
trunks. I will start trying some of the fixes. One suggested removing
the trunk seal and running weather strip adhesive on the edge and popping
the weather strip back on. Sounds like a quick fix to try and go from there.
Also I see tightening the spoiler nuts, another easy one to try.

Guess I keep trying little things and hope for the best.

isn't it odd so many Bonne's have water leakage issues...hummm.

I've been fighting this for a while... The first thing to do is to find out if the lid is the problem or the seal. Get a turkey baster, remove the carpet and the spare tire cover. Now use the turkey baster to squirt water in the valley around the seal. Do it one side at a time and watch for water. If you've done for a while and the trunk is still dry, the problem is probably the lid. Remove the two rubber plugs just behind the lip of trunk lid. Leave them out. Any water that gets in the lid will run out the holes and on the outside of the seal and miss the inside of the trunk. This way the water doesn't build up and leak in. Usually the spoiler bolt holes and the hole for the third brake light are the culprit.

If it's leaking around the seal, buy a new one from GM... It's like $60 and it will most likely fix your problem.
