Exhaust tips

Post by Red Rocket »

I've always admired the Bonnevilles with the chrome exhaust tips because it really makes the car look that much better in my opinion. However, I know absolutely nothing about exhaust tips or where to begin searching for them. I'd ideally like something like haro's tips (so gorgeous). Also, how are they installed? Is it an easy process? Thanks for the help!

While mine are actual Corvette tips, the ones on ebay look VERY similar. They about $100 and need to be welded on. I paid an exhaust shop $40 to put them on. Need a reason to be jealous? I only paid $20 for my tips on ebay...

I'd get a link for ya, but I'm on a Kiosk that only allowed 1 window browsing ;)

:hail: Good deal. When you find a kiosk that allows more than 1 window browsing, a link would be appreciated.

By the way, does it change the sound of the exhaust at all?

My tips do have resonators built into them, but my exhaust is far to loud to be able to tell a difference that small. Short answer, I didn't notice anything.

Thanks for the link haro. They do look absolutely gorgeous.

Do they have the built in resonators? I didn't see that listed anywhere in the description.

I'm also trying to figure out a way to get a little more rumble out of the exhaust without replacing it or modifying it much. I was driving my dad's Grand Prix GXP while my car was in the shop and just fell in love with the sound of that exhaust. I know I won't be able to make it sound like that but a little more low end would be nice.

Those do not have the resonators built in, mine do.

To get a deep exhaust note like the GXP, you would want to upgrade the mufflers to Magnaflow's or something like that. rrounds has some pretty sweet sounding exhaust on his SSEi, I can't remember the name of them off the top of my head.

To get a little more low end, you would want ported manifolds, a downpipe, or even headers. However, be warned, my headers make my car VERY loud and annoying, even with the stock mufflers.

As Haro said, no resonators in these tips. Here is another pic of them

Alright, I'll make a driving video, and I'll even see if I can find a stock 00 SSEi to run at the same time.

Wanna come to Virginia :)

j/k, but I'd like to get those same tips too, they would look awesome! I am tinkering the idea of what they would look like gold instead of chrome...like sortof a brass color or soemthing.

This shows the whole process:

http://www.pontiacbonnevilleclub.com/fo ... f=14&t=126
These tips will slightly change the tone of the exhaust, but barely noticable, only at idle standing right behind the car.

Bill, I think you installed them backwards.

:laughing3:

Every car sounds slightly different than others. I noticed the Y-pipe for my cutout changed the tone a bit when I installed that some time ago. So mine may have been more 'prone' to the tips slightly changing the tone as well. You wouldn't think something this simple could, until you start thinking about how the sound can resonate through that curved section.

My gut tells me most cars would notice a SLIGHT change, barely perceptible, and only at idle. You won't even notice unless you're listening for it. Above idle? Nothing.

I'm talking from my personal experience. Three people stood there and not one mentioned or felt the sound changed. Only the cool look.

It's only my experience though. Surely others have had different experience. You did put your tips on close to two years later, they might have changed them slightly. [-X

Audible differences will be totally different based on different exhaust setups. And I was listening for any change, and barely noticed.
