No "key in ignition" chime or "headlights on" chime

Post by widtrak77 »

2001 Bonneville I read somewhere this is often a dead front speaker but both up front are working fine with the radio. Does anyone have knowledge regarding this issue or a suggestion what to check next? Thanks in advance

I've not heard of this problem. I've attached some information from the Factory Service Manual

Hey there, thanks for posting that. It's probably beyond my diagnostic capabilities since I don't have a scan tool or really how to use one so I may have to live with it

Yeah not the biggest problem in the world. If you wanted to try replacing the IPM I have them available. No programming required and it would only take a few minutes.

Do you think the IPM may have anything to do with not being able to dim the dash lights? I drove the car for the first time at dusk today and the dimmer would not work. After a while though it did and at the same time the lights in the door controls came on Lol

Yes the IPM also controls the dash lights along with many other things.
The IPM is wired to the class 2 serial data line. The various IPM input and output circuits are described in the corresponding functional areas as indicated on the IPM electrical schematics.

The IPM functions include the following:

Ambient light sensor input and twilight delay input for headlights control.
Front HVAC air delivery and temperature controls.
IP dimmer switch input.
Ignition switch headlight control.
Interior lamps switch input.
Key-in-ignition switch input from the ignition switch.
Rear compartment lid release switch input.
Traction control switch input.

Okay. Sounds like it could be faulty for sure. There was a bit of water in the floors, no surprise but it wasn't horrible. I have corrected that issue. Any idea where that class 2 serial dara line is? I would be interested in getting the IPM from you. If you can PM me I 'll get you my email. I don't have a FSM for this car yet, I would like to know the procedure if you can send me that at some point also. Many thanks for the help!

The class2 serial line runs all over the car, to every module, connecting the network.

My email is andrew.suderman@gmail.com and all my other contact information is on my website.
