Heads up display SWITCH removal

Post by Dankingsley22 »

Title states it. I need to remove my heads up display switch because I think there’s a bad connection to the intensity text after the light was dim the other day, now off

I don't have a HUD so i dont know for sure, but if I remember correctly, you will need to take off the dash bezel. This is the big piece of plastic that wraps around your gauges and extends down to the HVAC controls.

There are two push clips above the instrument cluster, so you will need to take something thin and press right in the middle until it pops off. Then gently pry around the edges until it pulls off, but be careful since there are sharp parts on the inside that can scrape the paint off the buttons on your radio/HVAC. Since you have an SSEi, you will need to unplug the DIC buttons in order to get it to come out farther. Since the HUD switch sits in the bezel itself, you will need to just reach around the back of the bezel to unplug it. Then you will need to take the bezel out of the car since it will make it much easier to unscrew the switch with more room. Then it should be out, and once you're done doing the repair, follow the instructions backwards to reassemble.

Pretty sure the HUD switch just pops out with some prying. Use a plastic pry tool or a flat screwdriver wrapped in electrical tape to avoid damaging the trim.

The switch is not the problem. The ground inside the projector for the light dimming sensor is bad......there is a post for a fix.....

Ok, I'll Play...

Thread title;
Heads up display SWITCH removal
Answer #1 which is more involved and will do it the "technical" way;
here are two push clips above the instrument cluster, so you will need to take something thin and press right in the middle until it pops off. Then gently pry around the edges until it pulls off, but be careful since there are sharp parts on the inside that can scrape the paint off the buttons on your radio/HVAC. Then you will need to take the bezel out of the car since it will make it much easier to unscrew the switch with more room. Then it should be out, and once you're done doing the repair, follow the instructions backwards to reassemble.
Answer #2 from Ed above (00Beast), which is more of the quick/easy way;
Pretty sure the HUD switch just pops out with some prying. Use a plastic pry tool or a flat screwdriver wrapped in electrical tape to avoid damaging the trim.
What am I missing here? GM interiors of the 90's and early 2000's were designed and made in partnership with Little Tikes and the parts *generally* snap in/out with a little prying.

Well I tried with a little flat blade and it was moving around but I’m not sure if there are clips around that I need to look for while I’m prying the switch gingerly and I believe I forgot to mention the image button still lights up so I think instead of a connection being bad that there are burned out bulbs
