Wagon lament

Post by Ghosthawk »

The SUV and "Crossover" have killed off the wagon in this country, and I miss them. Now that I actually have use for one, it would be nice to go shopping...overseas that is.

Here is one beauty that never made it to our shores...
Image

Here is another that Hyundai sells in Europe and Aussie land as the i40...I'd love one of these with the 2.0T
Image

And oh for the days when Pontiac knew how to mesh wagon and style together (without the bloody fake wood!)

I may have to power up Paint Shop and chop a Bonnie shooting brake :bhuh:

The USA gets an Acura TSX wagon:

Oddly, Canada does not. I would have figured they would sell like hotcakes over here, like many other wagons.

Ugh, now you guys have me thinking of the late model Roadmaster wagons. Swap the front clip over from a sedan, and I would be in heaven.

I don't think wagon's are completely dead. I've noticed Mercedes and even a BMW wagon rolling around in my neck of the woods. The Mercedes one was dead sexy, I was impressed. Crossover's have absolutely no appeal to me. It's like their a sedan trying to be an SUV trying to be a sedan.

Mercedes, BMW, and Audi all offer wagons, bu all of those (plus the CTS) are just out of my budget. I dont think I'd pay the inflated prices even if I had the money, but to each his own.
The 9-5 Saab looks sharp indeed, and I've seen a few other SportCombi models (Aero?) that looked quite nice.

Big props to Booze on the chop of his Bonne...that looks nine kinds of awesome. Maybe a bit more slope to the roofline in the back.
The TSX is nicely equipped also but a lot of reviews complain about it being underpowered, and the 4cyl is the only engine option...plus used its still $20k...ouch.

I was gonna say, CTS-V Wagon > *

A close second would be a SRT8 Magnum

The G8 wagon and ST as you know were put on hold during the bankruptcy, but were in the works.

Sign me up for a CTS-V wagon and an E60 M5 wagon... Nothing quite like a V10 singing along inside a wagon. What a sight. I'd drive it around with the gate open.

Was gonna post my 'chop but Cody beat me to it, haha.

As for the G8 wagon or the UTE for that matter, I'm sure he's not the only one doing it, but there is a guy that is importing the back-halfs from down under and cutting G8's in half here to create a wagons & UTEs here in the states. Though I'm not sure how titling works with that and obviously it's gonna cost extra but they I'm pretty sure they can be had a little under the typical cost of a G8 GXP, unless it was a GXP that was chopped.

I'd rock an E39 Touring, although it's a little frustrating they didn't come out of the factory with the V8 and 6-speed manual. The M5 would be awesome, but after keeping my E34 on the road for a few years I'd balk if something broke. :sadeyz:

Yea, a local CHC guy and myself pondered how we could do them ourselves. Either actually import them from Australia, or do the conversion. But unfortunately neither of us are made of money, so...

I've looked at a few Magnum R/Ts and I'm sure the performance is fun but that city/combined mpg is just brutal. I guess Bonnie's combo of power and mileage has spoiled me a bit, and I know my 200 vert sure has. The higher dollar performance models are nice I'm sure but I'm hunting a useful daily driver. Its always great to dream about the heavy hitters but they don't set well when you have to visit the pump twice as often.

I looked a Honda Crosstour, which is a polarizing style to be sure, but I still like it better than any SUV (Hey, I do have an Aztek in the driveway so maybe its just me being odd) I wish they would offer the wagon version of the Chrysler 300 with the 3.6/8spd, or I might even give GM a second look if the Impala or the Malibu offered a Sportwagon.

That Saab proves somebody still knows how to make a wagon look cool :hail:
