MAF, EGR issues..

Post by yogidad »

Howdy. A few months back she was hesitating and stalled out at lights a few times, threw code 64 indicating the MAF sensor was the culprit. Unplugged it and was in like flynn a few months, then something else unrelated to an emission issue had me check the codes again, and I found the code for the EGR valve was now showing, #37 I beleive it was, along with the original MAF code. The car ran ok, but I went out and bought a new MAF sensor, installed it, plugged it in and fired her up, and its still hesitating and stalling like before. Assuming the part is good, as it is a new rebuilt , could the EGR valve itself now show more in causing symptoms? I think not, as once i unplugged the MAF she runs fine like before. Do I need to clear the codes by disconnecting the battery before the MAF sensor performs properly when plugged back in?

Yes, unplug the battery for a bit.

Yes, I went and removed the EGR , it seemed to have a slight sound from within when i shook it gently. I used some carb cleaner, rubbed the bottom a bit with an old toothbrush, wiped it clean and dry, reinstalled. Had unplugged the battery for maybe 20 minutes, re plugged in the MAF, started it up, no hesitation, no miss, and no light! I let it run for a few minutes, revved it a bit, still seemed ok. Didn't have time to drive it and see how we did, but will report back when I do. Thanks for the reply back.

So far so good. Drove home from work yesterday and all was good, no light, no stalling, etc. This morning started well, the nwhile idling a moment the engine light came on. Once I started to drive it went off and stayed off. Isn't life grand!
