Ignition control module.
Has anyone replaced an ignition control module on a 1988 Bonneville LE? I recently took it in to a mechanic and the price quote of 350 seems a little way too steep. I was wondering if this is an easy part to replace?

It's probably got the "type-1" magnavox 3-in-1 coil on it, which is not very common anymore and sucks to replace the whole coil pack when only one of the coils is actually bad. The module is probably $120 new, the coil another $100. Maybe more. Check the local stores to see what those cost, or if the mechanic gave you a quote. $350 seems high to me.
But I recommend switching to a "type-2" delco module and coil setup. Just need the bracket, the module, and the three coils and you're all set. The only thing you can't buy brand new would be the mounting bracket, the cost of the parts new is maybe a little less than the type-1, and depending on local prices I'd expect the whole thing to be less than $100 in parts from a yard (they should give you a warranty on the coils for an exchange if one or more doesn't work).
The type-2 is more reliable, the coils are cheaper and can be individually replaced, and with that bracket it's 100% drop in. Others here will know the models you can pull from to get it.
Might get the parts and get the quote from the mechanic to swap them over for you if you're not able DIY this one? Should be about 30 minutes of work, I did the one on my '89 in about 30 minutes anyway, so depending on how they charge for labor could be a lot cheaper overall.

The module plug contacts get loose, pull the connector off and tighten up on the sockets.
The modules rarely go bad.
If you need the module is better to go to the junk yard and get the Delco (3 coil) entire unit.
Better spark and quicker starts.
