Battery Requirements for Olds Delta 88

Post by 89OldsRocket »

My 650 cca battery has a bad cell. Car had been sitting since March and the battery was in the garage out of the car on a piece of wood. It had low water on one cell and after topping up the water it wont charge above 10.5volts.

Would it be OK to use a 600cca battery for a few months? Its out of my Cobalt that will be going of the road over the winter.

Also, why would the water drop so much in one cell? No apparent leak in the case, and I had charged it once during the summer to start up the Olds but may not have checked the water level at that time.

A 600 cca battery should be fine, even in cold weather as long as the engine is in a good state of tune.

The dead cell is probably getting hot because it has high resistance, so the acid will evaporate.

I agree, a 600cca battery should get you along, but it doesnt leave much room for error. I prefer room for error myself...

Problem is the 600cca battery is top post - should I buy the kit with adaptors or just cut off the side mount connectors and put top mounts on permanently. 2nd option would be cheaper and from what I hear top post is a lot better that the side post connectors.

The adaptor kit is much cheaper than a new battery, and you get a wider choice of which battery to use.
