Anybody know of this Georgia tuner?
So the quest for a tune for my unsupported '98 LSS has brought me in contact with a few helpful individuals, mainly on the GP boards, and also including a few closer to home.
I have been approached by a guy in Georgia, who claims a stock cam record, in what I dont know, but was curious if someone here has, or knows someone with a tune from him? His screen-name is dohcz34, and he's listed as a vendor on grandprixforums.net.
His PM:
"I'm in Georgia in the southeast part of the states. I'll be using the latest OSID for your vehicle (9357155). I've tuned hundreds of cars and I'm sure there are plenty of cars from here, CGP and tunes i've done in person running around. I'd be more than happy to give you screen names, phone #'s and emails of people of cars i've tuned if it's a concern.
Cost is negotiable, Average 1.0 pcms are $150 USD with your core pcm in return. I understand your situation of having a rare car/pcm combo so you'll most likely want to keep your stock pcm. I can do $200 USD + actual shipping cost. I'll declare the pcm as dead/in-op so you won't have to pay tax/duties on it. I offer updates as well with my pcms so if you want a code deleted or a minor change made I can do that for the price of shipping both ways + $10 USD. I've been with the gp/wbody community since 2002 so I'm here to stay and you won't be left with no one to tune your pcm. Let me know if this is of interest to you."
-Chris
Obviously not an ideal shipping situation, but better if it is shipped person to person, cost-wise.
I have not heard back from Overkill since the end of November, or John at Intense since about the same time, when it was looking like it would be a little extra effort, but totally do-able. I'm guessing it's a potential hassle for them, but I still don't know. The lack of communication has only left me wondering, with no concrete resolution, but the quick response's here also send up a few red flags for me, possibly unwarranted, but hopefully someone here knows of him.
Thanks

Re: Anybody know of this Georgia tuner?
He lived in MN when he actually had 3800's, and tuned my car. He had a Monte Carlo L36 that had turbos and he ran 11's. His name is Chris Kemp.
He did a decent job, except to get a tune that didn't knock like crazy, he added so much fuel it was crazy, since my mods were all over the place. It wasn't really his fault that my tune was bad, but I'm still not sure if I'd let him tune it again....

Re: Anybody know of this Georgia tuner?
With some of my new contacts, I may have access to one. Does this open up tuning possibilities on a stock PCM? Please forgive the ignorant, I'm a bit out of my depth on this one.Larz01 wrote:Do you have a tuning cable? hptuners, dhp?
I've been searching for a canned tune, but I dont' believe anybody has one, and I'm ready to try an SSEi tune cause I cant wait any longer.

Re: Anybody know of this Georgia tuner?
If your able to pull the bin file from the pcm, send it over. I maybe be able to add it to the dhp cable, I have a few non-supported operating system I created.

Re: Anybody know of this Georgia tuner?
If you have hptuner it still would be possible, just more hoops to jump through. You would need a raw .bin file, not a .hpt file....
p.s. If you get a used dhp cable, its one of the best investments you can make.

I have no idea what you just said, but I am definitely going to inquire about it. Thanks for the input guys!Larz01 wrote:If your able to pull the bin file from the pcm, send it over. I maybe be able to add it to the dhp cable, I have a few non-supported operating system I created.

Re: Anybody know of this Georgia tuner?
Read the pcm. Copy the contents in the pcm and save them.

Re: Anybody know of this Georgia tuner?
I hope to have the stock bin read this week-end, by a very accomodating GP owner about an hour north of me, and I just may fire it over to you for your take on it.Larz01 wrote:If your able to pull the bin file from the pcm, send it over. Would this file enable someone in the know to recommend another PCM like an SSEi or another similar car?

Re: Anybody know of this Georgia tuner?
It would be unlocked and tuneable given they have a dhp cable. Your factory calibration can be flashed onto another compatible pcm and tuned, you would have to spend time converting parameters to setup an l67 engine type in the file.

Re: Anybody know of this Georgia tuner?
If his sig on WCGPC is accurate, he has a Pwrtuner.
I'm going to start another thread focusing on my options and progress, as well as (hopefully) suggestions for obtaining a nice stable tune. Cheers
