Well I had dropped a lifter in so I could quick check the piston to valve clearance but didnt put the plastic lifter retainer in. The lifter turned itself sideways and left a sweet gouge in the cam lobe when I turned the crank. FML.

While I wait to hear back from Comp about whether the cam can be fixed and if Ill need custom pushrods, Im working on putting together a PCV/catch can setup.

As many of you know, getting pcv to work on an intercooled Gen V involves a little bit of tinkering. However, I dont want a normal PCV system spewing oil vapor through my blower and caking my intercooler, not to mention all the other engine internals. There are a number of ways to do this, some make more sense to me than others. Currently, the one that seems the smartest to me is to run an AN -10 line from a valve cover to a catch can, then a good sized vacuum line from the catch can to the TB adaptor. Other methods include having your catch can outlet in front of the throttle (no vacuum, but metered by the MAF), or just using a breather. My take is that I want as much vacuum on the crank case as possible to help the rings seal better and keep condensation out. Still not set in stone.

Im also getting to where I need to figure out my wiring harness. I want to make it as clean as I can but I also plan on putting the stock engine back in at some point so I cant go completely nuts. Im thinking ill end up just "making it work" for the time being and in the spring Ill reloom everything and make it nice.

I was thinking i was going to need fuel logs to clear the intercooler with the spacer and all but the rails I have should be fine now that I persuaded them.

Still havent pulled the trans out. Thats where Im going to need another set of hands, preferably one with more experience than mine with these things. Once thats out, I need to decide if the subframe should be dropped to put the driveline in from the bottom. Thats a biggie. The hood will have to come off but I *should* have enough room to lift the front end to clear the engine.

Engine is in mock-up while i plan out the vacuum and PCV systems. Ill post some pics later.

My original goal was 350 whp. Pretty safe to say ill have that beat. Todd Allen did 375 with a very similar setup with stock compression. I've got 9.5:1, so who knows...

Tinkered with the pcv setup today. I've formulated a few different possible methods to accomplish my goal of functional off without oil entering the induction path.

First and simplest would be to block the PCB hole in the lim with a pipe plug. Stuff a rubber plug in the PDF valve hole to block the vacuum port and start fresh. I would then drill a hole in the end of the rear valve cover and install a barb to run a 1/2" hose to a PCv valve , then into an air/oil separator. Then run a vacuum line from that to either the port on the throttle body or any other free, appropriately sized vacuum source. This would be the easiest and probably best performing setup. I could also run multiple vent hoses to improve the performance.

Second, possibly the most difficult method is to retain the pcv hole in the manifold and keep the valve in the blower case. To do this I would need to reroute the vapors from the valve through the pcv cap via a machined cap with a seal. I would also nee a second hole in the cap for vacuum from the hole inside. The two ports on the top of this cap would then connect to hoses leading in and out of an air/oil separator. I don't know if the performance of this would be ideal given the circuitous rout the vented vapors would be taking but it would probably be the cleanest in appearance.

The other method would be to drill into the side of my intercooler core to intercept the vapors before they reach the valve or vacuum port. Install a plug in the core and drill another hole above it to connect the clean side of the air/oil separator.

Not sure how much sense any of this is making but ill try to illustrate a little more clearly this weekend as I mock things up more.

I think Ive settled on a method for setting up the air/oil separator. What I want to do is install a plug halfwat down the hole in my intercooler, then drill a hole above the plug into the hole, and one below. Put a barb fitting in each, sent tubes to the separator, bam.

O have some more pics as well. Im working on mocking things up, such as the alternator, sensors, vacuum setup and whatnot.

ZZP's alternator relocation bracket isnt really very ideal. I think the GP alternator is smaller. I could just run it as-is with three washers under the alternator but I dont see why it needs to e moved quite so far over, so Im going to drill new holes in the bracket you see on the left so I can move the alternator over a little less. THis will cause a bit of a conflict with the bottom relocator bracket you see on the left. It will be too long. Ill either make another one in the right length or modify this one/ This will allow my power stud off the alternator to clear the blower without taking up more room than it needs to.

Looks good. This thread reminds me of all the troubles I went through, given the lack of documentation on things. I thought there would have been alot more out there.

I wouldnt worry about the cam! *shoot* happens, I pinched one of my connecting rods when installing my crank. It also marked my crank as well. Lesson learned.

Good work and keep it up.

Is the alt relocation bracket necessary on your setup? It isn't with mine. I have plenty of room to hook up the battery cable.

Yours clears? Odd. Mine isn't even close. As you can see in the pic from above, the back of the alternator is in line with the front of the gear drive of the blower. If I move the alternator over to the stock location, I wouldn't be able to clear the power lug even if I trimmed it down. Different alternators possibly? I'll take a pic without the spacer to illustrate.

Found a new home for the evap solonoid and working on some ideas for the MAP sensor. Then ill build a vacuum harness and start scrubbing the brackets. Wish I had a sand blast cabinet.

I'll be dipped in monkey poo. You're right. Not sure how I had gotten the impression it wasn't going to work. Probably didn't have the blower on straight or something.

Map sensor mounted, I'm trying to figure out my vacuum harness. I don't suppose the order of the components along the line really matters much. My fpr is in back so it won't be right after the bypass solonoid like normal. I'm also not sure what the big nipple on the rear side of the blower case is for.

Yes. It was sort of budget oriented but since I only used the core of the setup I would've been better off buying a phenolic core. Turns out spendding more upfront really can be a better choice.

yep, sure know how that is, I have a aluminum I/C that I paid 100.00 for and now its just 10.00 worth of scrap. No one can fix it

Whats wrong with it?

Ed came over yesterday and helped yank the trans. With that out of the way I might pull a subframe bushing to start formulating options for that. Also need to tidy up some wiring and clean up the engine bay.

Just remembered I need to find a power source for my UEGO gauge and get on making a pod for it.

Lots left to do but i think im no the home stretch. Should be done in time to splash in the salt and snow!! Yay!

Machined the intercooler core for fittings to connect the air/oil separator tonight. I still need to plug the PCV through hole but that should be simple enough.

Have some pics.

The valvetrain is together and I plan to instal the LIM, front cover, accessory drive and valve covers tomorrow. I also picked the trans up from having the hardened input shaft installed and I should be able to plop that in tomorrow as well.

Another item of concern was th clearance between tthe harmonic balancer and passenger side outboard engine mount. Ill have to wait til the oil pan is on to be certain, but it looks like I should have JUST enough room to install a belt.
