New tires! WOW - WHAT a difference!!!!

Post by Ludichris »

Today I just put on four brand new Michelin Primacy MXV4's. What was on there before were Toyo touring tires (don't know the exact model name). Prior to the tires being replaced, I just had the wheels rotated, and my "shake while you brake" symptom decreased by probably 80% or so. Turns out there was probably an issue with one of the steel belts in one of the Toyo's, causing the shake while you brake symptom. I spent more than I wanted on new tires...I think I've only bought four brand new tires at once, only one other time, and that was on my Jeep Cherokee several years back. Anyhow, I just got them this afternoon, and have only put about 30 miles on them, but WOW - INSTANT night and day difference all the way around! First thing I noticed as I was pulling out of the tire dealer lot and onto the road, was that it was more responsive to the steering wheel. I move the wheel...it responds! What a concept! Then I got onto the highway, going 70 MPH exactly (more on this in a minute). It was WAY smoother of a ride!!! With the Toyo's, you could feel every bump in the road a lot more. With these, those bumps got absorbed a lot more and you don't feel them as much. And...this is where I geek out a little - I'm an audio guy (I MAKE my own music, and then mix it down and put it to CD/MP3/whatever...), so a dB meter and the dB scale is something I'm quite familiar with - the reason I went 70 MPH exactly is because on my way TO the tire dealer, I measured with the dB app on my phone, and then did the same thing again on my way BACK from the dealer, on the same stretch of highway. Not only did my ears tell me it was a quieter ride, but so did the dB meter!

Anyhow, these particular tires got rave reviews on Tirerack.com, so I went with them. I'm STOKED!!!! I just drove 600 miles last weekend in my girlfriends LeSabre, and it rode like you were on a cloud. Now - so does my Bonneville!!!! SUPER happy! This isn't so much a tire review on the MXV4's as it is just to say that tires make a HUGE difference! There were so many little bothersome things about the RIDE of my car that I no longer need to worry about - it was the tires, and probably had a lot to do with the steel belt problem in the one tire. SO happy I changed them! Especially with winter coming! Now onto getting new brakes.....

Nice! Tires make an awesome difference. Penny's original Goodyears were garbage! The new BFGoodrich tires turned her completely into a different animal. Quiet, road doesn't tug at the wheel as much, less understeer.. It's unbelievable.

Same tires on my car. Been great for almost 25k now. I'd buy another set in a heartbeat, glad to hear they haven't discontinued them yet.

Yeah, I'm glad to see other happy users of these tires ON BONNEVILLE's. I had not tire-shopped in awhile...so many choices, and I didn't even want to spend that much. But for those reading this - I DO have experience with CHEAP tires, buying four crappy tires for an old beater Grand Am that I had for a short time, and I can tell you that you definitely get what you pay for with tires just like with anything else. I was somewhat annoyed with the ride of my car after driving my girlfriends very smooth riding, very quiet LeSabre. I didn't like driving my Bonnie after that too much. Now I look forward to driving her again. :-D

Nice Ride man! Wish they were available in my size :p I have a set of Hankooks on "Beni" Right now I'm not to fond of. I've had them balanced and checked for scalloping but there's definitely room for improvement in her highway manorisms. There's plenty of meat on them as well so I may just have to do an insane burnout and smooth them out a bit an see if that helps :P :joke:

No but seriously, congrats on the new tires man... :)

Thanks again for sharing! :beerchug:
