Got some new tires for the Bonne!!!
Got some new tires for the Bonne!!!
I bought my 01 SE a few weeks ago and one tire is bald on the outer edge and one has choppy inner edge like a bad shock does a tire. The 2 good tires have lots of tread left but the walls or dry rotting. The date on the tires says 2006. Its a set of Sumitomo's. So I started to look around for some mid grade tires. All my driving consists of a 1 mile trip to work. Kids to and from school, all within 3 miles from home and the occasional trip on the interstate.
After all that searching I went back to my local guy who is a Cooper distributor and he sells to the public. I have never found anyone to beat his price. Plus Cooper is offering a $50 mail in rebate if you buy all 4 tires.
I ended up with Cooper CS4 touring T rated. Which is has an 80,000 mile potential.
They were only 97 bucks per tire before taxes and the last time I bought Coopers the $50 visa came within 4-5 weeks as promised. I am waiting on my wife to get home now b/c I left the outer tierod ends in her van. Then tomorrow morning I have an appointment to have the tires mounted. balanced and get a fresh alignment! Cant wait to try out the new tires!
My next job for the Bonne will be to replace the I.S.S. b/c that is driving me insane!

The CS4 is a good tire, you should be happy with it.

Walmart has Goodyear tires made just for them that are extremely price competitive. They have the Goodyear name on them with a line name I've never heard of before. Like $86 for a 215/50 R x 17 W 45,000 mile (ha ha) tire. - BC

Just remember, you get what you pay for. I've never had good luck with Goodyear's anyways, so I'm gonna avoid them for sure....

Re: Got some new tires for the Bonne!!! **PICS**
Just got the Bonne back. The alignment shop said they couldnt find any issues. I installed the new Moog outer tie rod ends last night. The Cooper tires run very quiet. I got to 65 mph for a few seconds but I had to slow down quickly b/c it was a 45 mph zone. The pics are from my phone so they prolly aren't great and the rims are still dirty.

Re: Got some new tires for the Bonne!!!
P.S. Even though the ride was great it was ultimately ruined by the I.S.S. I just cant get my mind off of the symptoms the bad ISS causes but, at least once I replace the ISS Ill have a great set of tires and a quiet ride.

I've been curious about the Cooper touring tire. I'd like to know how they work out. I usually buy Goodyear and have been very happy with them, much more so than Michelin. I do say though that Michelin has by far the best customer service. They put the car manufactures to shame. - BC

Re: Got some new tires for the Bonne!!!
I went through a set and a half of Cooper Cobras on my 94 SE. I liked them, they were flashy with the white raised lettering and I was giddy to see them on a Mustang in a hot rod mag! I went through the first set of fronts faster than the rears by sporting my mods. IDK how good they were really. I am not to experienced with different tires. I paid $90-$100 ea. I've got Goodyear assurances on my 01 SSEi now. They seem good but I am just now becoming comfortable enough with Betty to push the tires.

Re: Got some new tires for the Bonne!!!
I have the Goodyear Triple Tread Assurances and love them. they are a little noisy at times, but in the rain and snow they are the best I have ever had. I have 15k on them and they still run good. They were expensive for a set, but wow. only tires I had that were better were the Michelins that came on my trailblazer I used to have 5 years ago.
I used to have dunlop radial rovers on that thing and the rear end was ALL over the place when it rained.
Goodyear also has a line called Republic, it is one of the older GY lines that they shipped over to China. for my 20 year old convertible that gets 5k/year max they work out fine and a set was like 250 bucks 3 years ago.

Re: Got some new tires for the Bonne!!!
I had a set of GY Assurance TripleTreds, and they were fine till I got 20k on them, after that they got super loud and started shaking the car. I got another 5k out of the tread life and ditched them for my Yokohama Avid ENVigors. It was amazing driving my car with no shake and no tire noise when I pulled out of Discount Tire's lot. It was a totally different car...

Re: Got some new tires for the Bonne!!!
I've had good luck with Hankook Ventus series... My dad has the v12s on his camaro and I had the v4 (i think) on the gtp I used to have. They have been a good, quiet, and smooth ride for us. I currently have Michelin Primacy xv4s on my bonne. These tires have definitely shown they're worth the 180 dollars a piece. They've been on the car since 07 and they still have about 25-30 percent tread left and they are still quiet as could be. They are just now starting to get a little dry cracking on the sidewalls but they all still hold 30psi just fine!

Re: Got some new tires for the Bonne!!!
Ive been buying Coopers for years. Being able to buy them straight from the wholesaler was the initial reason I started buying them along with people I knew talking about the quality.1oldman wrote:I've been curious about the Cooper touring tire. I put a set of Cooper Discovery H/T on a 96 Ford Explorer that I owned. Those tires worked wonderful and they had great tread when I sold it.
My dad put Cooper Classic II on his 94 f150, they had a good life. He does alot of driving and hauling stuff. A few months ago he needed to replace his tires and Cooper discontinued the "Classics." So we put a set of Cooper SRM II Radial LT.
I put a set of Cooper Lifeliner GLS on my moms 2001 Lincoln Continental. Its been a pretty good tire. Quiet, good handling, good treadwear. They have a little life left on them but, when its time to replace them she will be getting the Cooper CS4.
I took my Bonneville out today and did alot of sudden lane changes and these CS4's just hugged the road. I took her down a curvy country road I like to take my cars down to test them out b/c its hardly any traffic and no houses. The Bonneville hung in the curves great at 65mph. She did not do that well last week when I had the other tires. I cant even remember what they were.
Now I know my car isnt an SSEI and it probably wasnt built to drive like I did but it done great!

Re: Got some new tires for the Bonne!!!
Well I guess didn't. I went to discount in Salem and they told me they needed to order special "cam bolts" to do the alignment. The shop I had do it before never said a thing about needing bolts. I lived in Portland so I went home and never had it aligned.
OOBeast it's interesting about the the assurances causing vibrations. It seems like I'm chasing down wobbles and vibes all day
