Mail order tunes? Whos got them?

Talk about modifications, or anything else associated with performance enhancements. Have a new idea for performance/reliability? Post it here. No idea is stupid! (please use Detailing and Appearance for cosmetic ideas)

Mail order tunes? Whos got them?

Post by redzmonte »

I was thinking of ordering a mail order tune and starting there, i have tried making a custom DHP 1.0 and 1.5 tunes for they bonneville but dont seem to work well, getting more KR or lean codes vs mostly stock tweeked tune.

I see Intense and ZZP both have mail order tunes, list the same changes i just want to hear everyones experience with these tunes. and what your scans showed after the tunes? Im leaning toward ZZP because i have had great results with every with anything i have got from ZZP plus they will email a DHP bin so i will get it faster and cheaper then the intense.

whos running what tune, apprecieate the feed back.

Just north of denver is Correct, Good memmory. I had a DHP 1.0 on my L67 Lumina and it seem to work well. I tried messing with a bunch of things, copying the tables from the DHP 1.0 & 1.5 to the bonnie bin and flashing it but got weird stuff. so i figured i would start with a good base tune and tweek it from there, $100 bux is worth it to me to get a good tweeked tune to see what changes they made vs stock.

I will be the 1st to admit, i am 100% new to tuning so i understand how the tuning works just not experienced at tuning. I did tune my turbo DOHC, but honestly it is not to far from stock.. Fuel and timing are really about the only thing i had to tune.. the bonnie gets pissed (gets KR) on just about every adjustment i make so figured i would see how the pros do it.

Dyno/chasis tuning around chicagoland is pricey, around 500.00 where as ZZP snd Intense are more fairly priced priced at 300.00. I would definantly pay 300.00 for a good dyno tune over a pcm tune anyday. The car is in full mode including vibrations and such, thereby getting a real actual tune imop. Good luck with finding one in your area.

What part of the tune are you struggling on; making actual air fuel match commanded, transmisson settings, ignition timing, etc.? Copying tables does not get you anywhere, you need to match the tune to the vehicle, and know what changes you made. There is more to a tune that meets the eye, or what you can see in a tuning progam. A mail tune is just a start, ie. Same thing as a DHP 1.0/1.5 (they shouldn't even be called tunes) you need to know what your changing and how it modifies other parts of the calibration, while syncing everything together for a specific vehicle.

ordered the ZZP tune, will see how she likes it.. then start playing from there. As for my problem tuning, its just lack of experience.. i understand what most of the fuctions are, i dont really know how to properly modify some of them but i know things like AE, PE, Timing, ect.. but things like VE, i honestly dont understand how they should be properly modifed. so i will start with the mail order and make tweeks from there, that should atleast let me see how others modify and what i should F with and what i shouldnt.

I got the PCM installed and i am very happy with the tune. Runs smoother, pulls harder and the trans is soooo much better (shift points, shift speeds, pressure ect..) I would recommend anyone looking for a good upgrade to consider the ZZP PCM. FYI, they have either HPT files or mail in, no longer have the BIN Format for DHP. Will do a scan prob. this week and see if i can add timing and squeeze a little more out of it. don't feel anything funky like PCM is pulling timing or anything.
