changed the fuel pump....
I changed the fuel pump on my 92 SE, and now my gas guage always reads full. Is it most likely that the mechanism in the tank is bad, or some sort of sensor or what? The pump I installed is used. Is there a way to fix this without pulling the tank again? TIA!

I'm assuming you also swapped fuel sending units (float assembly & sends signal to gauge) when you installed the used pump, etc. (?) If so, it is likely the sending unit that was on the new-used assembly.
Also, if the sending unit looses its ground, it will cause the gauge to register F all the time. But this is not real likely, unless the connector to the fuel pump/sender unit isn't mating 100% (the one down by the tank).
So, the $64,000 question is whether you are currently using the sending unit that came on the junk yard pump? or did you re-use your original one that came out of your car (with the float and all)?

NOWWWW I get it! ha. LOL Yes, I noticed the change with the pix in the signature and all, but thought some quick changes had been made. Sorry you had to explain it. But pretty funny, now that you have. That was a dirty trick.

You will probably have to drop the tank again to fix this. I haven't had the chance to peek down into a '92 H-Body fuel tank, but on a lot of models there are sheetmetal plates/baffles welded to the inside of the tank to form a sump around the pump. (Keeps the fuel pump inlet submerged in fuel even while gas is sloshing around the inside of the tank.) It's pretty easy to hang the float up on one of the baffles and prevent it from following the fuel...it is stuck in the up position.
Also, there's the signal wire from the fuel level sender. You were working around it when you replaced the pump. It may not be connected or not making good contact...so even if the float is following the fuel, the gas gauge can't see the change in resistance of the sender as the float moved up and down.

Thanks for all the advice guys! I simply replaced the whole assembly that I got from the junk-yard. I'll have to do some investigating to see if I have any loose connections, and if not, I suppose I'll have to drop the tank again.
I'll let you know what I find out!
