Stupid question....

Post by bonniegirl »

When rebuilding an engine shouldnt there be a left and right side head gasket? They should not be the exact same right?? I ordered Fel-Pro ones and they are the exact same and that just doesnt seem right to me.

I can't see why they shouldn't be. I think it depends on the engine as to whether they're side specific or not.

I don't recall ever coming across specifically handed head gaskets on any V engine layout I have worked on, at my age that's a lot of engines!.
Fel-Pro are a well known reputable brand, I doubt they would get it wrong, but for peace of mind why not get in touch with their customer relations department and ask them?, I'm sure they will tell you head gaskets aren't handed but if I'm wrong you will save yourself a lot of trouble.

If I am wrong let us know, it's information a lot of us need to know.

Roger.

They should say 'front' on one end. One will be normal on will be upside down when you install.

If it has arrows instead, those point to the front of the engine.

Ok. Its confusing cuz on ZZP they show a left and a right but on other sites they just have you order 2 of the same. I went to NAPA and ordered both head gaskets and they are the exact same but it seems odd they would be the same because of the different textures on each side?? I dont know if that makes sense lol I just want to make sure I get the right ones.

Yeah a head gasket is a head gasket on American motors, in my experience. Textures on them don't nees to be up or down properly. Just make sure all your holes and passages are open when you place thw gasket on.
