4.3L Vs 3.8 dimensions...

Post by 01bonneSC »

How much bigger is a 4.3 than a 3.8, external dimension wise. Just have a few ideas up my sleeve....

They're probably about the same....they're both 90-degree V6s...one is a Chevy and the other is a Buick.

FYI: The LG3 (not to be confused with the 3.8L Buick V6 LG3) Vortec 4300 V6 produces 200 hp, 260 ft-lbs trq.

What about the turbo 4.3's that came in cyclones and typhoons? It gets those 4k+ lb bricks pretty far in the 1/4.

I do remember these 2 motors being compared a while back.. IIRC they share nothing in common other than the 90* v6 part.

the 4.3 Vortec in my buddy's blazer is REALLY short and looks tiny and it even has a smaller radiator than the Bonneville :bsnicker: . I wouldn't be at all surprised if you could stuff one into a Bonne. Transmission and drivetrain would be a whole nother story though.

The only thing they have in common are the valve lifters. Literally.

You'd get more out of an L67 and the fit wouldn't be a problem.

It is wider, slighly longer in length, and heavier overall...also the bellhousing is the corp V8 pattern on most (if not all ) of the 90degree V6 Chevy blocks. Dimensions are due to freestanding 4" diameter bores...carried over from the SBC V8 block it is derrived from.

The Buick 3800 will be a better fit in most cases, just due to the accessory drive setup will make it more compact overall.

If you really want an engine swap project, go for an LS4 swap.
