Ebay Supercharger

Post by candybonne »

Has anyone had any experience with one their rebuilt superchargers? I hope I don't get in trouble for this link but its just for reference. It looks like it may be one of those Cardone rebuilt superchargers

I figure for $475 with a 3 year warranty you cant beat it.

Snout bearings and rotor bearings I believe. I bought one off of ebay before that was used. Got played as the bearings were bad in that one as well. I have the worst luck with junkyard crap and have learned its better to go new with most wear items. So now I have two worthless S/C's. I disassembled both units and found that the rotor pack bearings are pretty shot in both too. Which leads me to believe that it is better to get the whole thing rebuilt than just the snout. I would rebuild it myself but rebuilding the rotor packs seems difficult.

I'm not sure if he has any, but harofreak00 sells his S/C's for $125 apiece I think, and they are usually in great condition.

#-o No info on rebuilding rotor packs. The snout is simple. I have seen someone else that rebuilt the rotor packs but it looks quite involved.

Haro charges $175 plus $25-$30 shipping for the same equivalent I can get off a car here locally in the yard for half the price. With unknown mileage.

I have already thought about your recommendations. Which is why I asked this question

Has anybody ever used one of the Cardone units or the "Ebay" unit referenced in the original post.

I have never used them. I had one get trashed and just bought anotherone for the rotors and used the same housing. Willwren does all my SC work.

Just a heads up, they want a $200 core fee and you said yours are all tore down. Are you planning on paying the $200?

Rotor packs are extremely difficult to rebuild if you don't have a production jig and press.

@myfirstbonnie

The second one I didnt disassemble all the way just took the snout off and pulled out the rotor packs to examine them before I installed it. Felt the bad bearing then but thought I was trippin. Its currently on the car without the S/C belt attached. The original I hacked up pretty bad. I damaged the rotors getting them out of the rotor bearing housing. The pulley was shot too used a three prong puller big no no.

@JWilkoff

I know. plus I don't have a press would have to buy one which adds to the cost of the repair. Although having a press would allow me to rebuild a bunch of things plus put poly bushings in everything. Aligning the rotors is one of my biggest fears. Plus getting the rotor bearings out and installing the new ones is a hassle and from what I heard requires machining. Although some have used red loctite.

Are you talking about the needle bearings?

He is referring to the rotors where the mount to the plate (nosedrive end of the rotors). The needle bearings are in the TB end of the housing.

Yep, the rotors and plate they are attached to. Alignment is extremely critical, and easy to get wrong.

Did you check the for sale section on the forum. Other people are selling working superchargers.

@vogie and others: It sounds like the OP is aware of where to find used S/C's, but is seeking info here specifically on the option of getting one of these rebuilt Cardone parts. Whether or not there are cheaper options, the OP wants to know if these Cardones are any good.
