ABS stuff

Post by nos4blood70 »

Anyone in the Chicago area have a tech 2 scanner? Winter is around the corner and I'm still driving around in a car with no ABS and Traction control. I would love to have these back. The reason I'm asking is because I went to my local mechanic and he said he scanned it and that it would be something like 1,100 bucks to fix it at a dealer...? This sounds completely ridiculous. So I just want someone who can give me the truth and who I can trust. :dontknow:
Thanks in advance.

Sounds like it's probably the EBCM, the ABS pump essentially. You can find a used one for around $300 IIRC. Go back to your mechanic and ask him what part it is. A Snap-On scanner like he has will till him everything the tech II can, he just didn't want you to go replacing it yourself probably...

It sounds like the brake control module. I had the same problem on my LeSabre, and was able to fix it for free. I have a scanner that will do ABS codes, and I was getting a C1214 "open relay" fault. Here's how I did it on my LeSabre... might be similar for you.
I pulled the left front fender well out, which exposed the side of the EBCM. There are 6 torx screws holding the electronics onto the valve body. Remove those and it will pull off (it was held together with sealant, so requires a little bit of careful force and prying to get the 2 to seperate). There is a small cover with more torx on it. Remove those. You will be able to find a small screw hole on the module. If you find the right size screw, you can thread it in there and it will allow the seal to be broken and give you access to the circuit board. Once in there, it was just a matter of touching up the solder connections. There was a bad one on the relay. Once I did that and reinstalled the module, the red brake light and abs light turned off, and no more codes. Oh yeah... be sure to seal it up good. Once you get the module off, there is a place that you can send it to to get it rebuilt... can't remember the name. Have to google it... that's if you don't want to mess with it.
