May want to search for similar posts - even the most recent ones on the page.
You have a low pressure switch and a high pressure switch.
Usually you are low on r134 and the system deactivates to protect the compressor.
The aftermarket kits (if you are in Canada) are Duracool and RedTek, both HC based and both work well. They come with a basic gauge, plug in the LOW pressure side (schrader valve). Anyone disagree with that statement suggest you do some research.
If you compressor wont kick on but pressure is good - start at the compressor connector, see if it is coming in at 12v with AC ON. Juice at the compressor means clutch problem. If not, could be relay or fuse. (both on the firewall/engine side)
Does your cruise control work?
