Brake cleaner will not remove the stuff (generally cosmoline, which is similar to thick grease) well enough to provide a good braking surface. You want that surface squeaky clean. When I worked at a shop I had to wash rotors in the parts washer, then with soap and water and then wipe with brake cleaner before my boss would let the rotors go on the car.
I don't think your approach is wrong... but it's definitely overkill. If brake cleaner won't remove the stuff, why is it called brake cleaner? Honestly, in the many hundreds and many years of brake jobs between myself and everyone I know, brake cleaner is sufficient.

Centric's premium line of rotors is good stuff. I'm running it in the rear now and plan on the same for the front when the time comes.

Update: The Raybestos rotors and Wagner pads have now been on the car for over 2 weeks (roughly 450 miles with mixed city/freeway driving), and there haven't been any problems with them. Braking is smooth and quiet. The rotors aren't scored and are still nice and shiny, and there's very little brake dust.

What an improvement over the Duralast 'premium' rotors and cmax pads! And interestingly enough, the Raybestos rotors were only roghly $6 more each, and the Wagner ceramic pads were the same price as the Duralast cmax ceramic pads.
