reman or rebuild

Post by blackbeauty00 »

Well I would like everyone's input on this. Onc again I think and it feels like my transmission is taking a crap on me, I'm not tryin to jinks myself. But I have had my share of transmission failures and I have a bad feeling about this one. Should I buy a manufactured one or have one of mine rebuilt?? Let me know.

The trans is fine until I the car has been driven awhile like 30mins and longer it starts acting up... it shifts really hard from 2nd to 3rd, like hard enough it shakes the whole car. Sometimes its a little sluggish.

Sounds like your Pressure Control Solenoid is bad. Common. Do you know if the PCS was a new unit when you got your last trans? Some places put in new ones, some dont.

The trans I got now is from a local jk. The trans I had before I took out the forward clutch pack. Where is this pressure switch located at?

Its in the side pan. You can replace it in the car, there's a thread on it somewhere. If the trans you have in car now is from a jy I can 90% say its the pressure control solenoid.

There should be a code for it, won't pop up with the CEL tho. If it does all happen to be shot, make sure you get the PCS replaced, either with the reman or rebuild.

You can "work around" a bad PCS with a TransGo shift kit. It's not fixing the problem, but will make it far more livable for about $80 including the shift kit and new ATF.

Be careful, a trans shop is just as likely to tell you that you need a rebuild as anything else.

It is a project, but this will most likely solve the issue...

If this does solve the problem, I highly recommend the ATSG Shift Improver kit at the next pan drop..
