power steering leak at pressure line

Hi Everyone, I started loseing power steering fluid , unfortunately only noticed when the pump was screaming and immediately shut the car off and added fluid,,,,,,,,,,,,,the culprite is the pressure line that seems to run to the rack, this is a dealer part only???? I also was told that the subframe has to be removed to fix this problem.??? any thoughts, is this something I want to endure? its loseing quite abit and noticeably around where the metal meets the rubber line. Any thoughts to where I can find this part at a reasonable price let me know. Just completed wheel bearings up front and that fixed the "service stability system" light that was annoying for a year!!!!! Glad I didnt do the job myself because it took them several hours to remove the old hubs off due to corrosion! Thanks everyone

If you didn't do the hubs yourself I doubt you're going to want to do the line yourself. It's a lot of convoluting and working in very tight areas, especially with the GXP. The new line will either have to come from a junkyard or the dealer. It's not something any auto parts store would stock, AFAIK.

The GXPs must have different lines. I was able to get one for a 2000 SSEi from Rock Auto, but I don't see it listed for the GXP. Beast is right in that you have to work in a tight area, in particular where the lines attach to the rack, and power steering pump.

gmpartsdirect has it for like $90. Called a local dealer and they want $170 for it. No one else that I called has one so the cheapest may be the $90 one.

Thanks everyone, the price of around 100 seems to be correct, I am waiting for a quote on this line shorty and I will post what I paid and where I got it from. Seems that alot of mechanics (other than gm) frown abit when I bring this car in for work, the hubs were frozen so severely that it took firestone almost 7hours to complete the job (both sides), they gave me the price which was quoted thank god. Lifetime warranty on part, 12 month 12k warranty on labor, I looked up prices of the hub assembly and I think 487 was reasonable for having someone else install, the gm dealership was 920 so almost half the savings

Not sure how it would take 7 hours. The longest I've ever worked on a hub has been an hour, and after that we took the air hammer to it and it popped right off...

Yes, typically it takes an hour per side, however; after watching them with an air hammer for over two hours, I called for a ride, the service manager said that they were frozen mostly from corrosion, salt etc from our northeast snow storms

I'd have taken a torch to the knuckle to expand it and it probably would've popped out.

I found the power steering line for 42 bucks on OEHQ.com the part is backordered for two weeks , I also found a mechanic that said its a b**** to change, but will charge 2hours labor to do it, while he is under there I am going to have him change out the oiler cooler lines which I also got from the same website 62.00............

I pull spindle and hub at that point and use press to separate. Last one took 12000 pound to get it free

You'd rip the entire front suspension from the car with that level of force...

I'm pretty sure he's talking about the force required to press the hub out of the spindle with a shop press! I've worked on a Equinox with a siezed hub and had to take the whole spindle to muffler man so they could press it out. Sometimes that's your only option.
