blower motor resistor on my 96 Silverado

Post your pics of your non-Bonneville, and If you have video footage, we want to see it. Videos must be hosted on external web space and hotlinked to PontiacBonnevilleClub.com. Also discuss mechanical problems regarding your non-bonneville (this is not another lounge, but posts don't count, random car vids not of your cars should be in the lounge)

blower motor resistor on my 96 Silverado

Post by harofreak00 »

96 Silverado 4x4

Blower motor has been squealing at me for a few months, but has continued to work.

Recently, I lot the ability to control the fan speed. Its either off or full blast. None of the other increments work.

Where is the blower motor resistor on this thing?

Remove the glove box by opening it and squeezing the right and left-side allowing it to drop out. Make sure that it is empty or everything will fall out on the floor board. You will see at 12 o'clock a small metal bracket which holds a with connector and a black square relay. Remove the two 7mm screws holding the metal bracket. Remove the relay and white connector from the bracket and set the bracket to the side. Directly behind where the metal bracket was mounted you will see a electrical connector mounted vertically into the resistor. Remove the connector. Now comes the tricky part! Due to the small amount of space that you will have to work it will be necessary to disconnect some of the connectors and the relay and tuck them behind the resistor. You will need small hands to put a 1/4 drive socket with a 7mm socket and there are two hex head screws that hold the resistor board in place. One to the right of the connector and one to the left. Once you are successful in removing these screws the resistor board will come loose but you will not be able to pull it out with out bending the resistors on the board. To replace the resistor bend the resistors on the new board making sure that you do not break them wiggle it into place. Just before putting the screws back into the resistor board be sure to bend the resistors back so that they do not touch. Proceed with the reverse of the removal.

Yup had that same part go out on mine before, make sure they give you the right resistor for number of fan speeds, I assume it has four but some of the older ones had three

Great info guys, thanks.

Pretty silly that you have to bend the resistors on the new board to get it in...
