The puddle of green

Post by mtcrss2006 »

So I see a nice collection of antifreeze under my car, and I'm thinking this could be the treacherous LIM gasket failure. :angry7:

I don't know how the coolant passages run through the intake but I'm sure this isn't good.

it only squirts here at the 90* elbow going to the intake at 1500+ rpm, so I think it's leaking elsewhere too.

Can anyone confirm this is a symptom of the bad intake gasket? I hope it's not going to rain anytime soon so I can take the bike to work. :D

That looks bad. If you've confirmed that it's not coming from the elbow, that just leaves the LIM gasket, right?

I don't think this is aluminum, but it IS the second design.

Does anyone have a part number for the aluminum LIM gasket kit?

That should be listed in the techinfo article on changing the intake gaskets. It's hard to tell from the pictures, but the leak appears to be coming from where the elbow goes into the LIM. Even so, if you can, may as well take care of everything by doing the intake gaskets. You could go to the dealer and get the gasket there, or order it from Intense-Racing.

Edit - The link didn't provide any product info., and the second design is just whether or not the end cap gaskets have a rubber alignment nub. Felpro is now making a metal framed gasket.

Well after 11 years, the plastic decided it wasn't going to put up any of that temp-changing nonsense and it was failing bad. I had a garage guy look at it and when he got the alternator off and gave it a tug, it crumbled. He spent most of his time taking out chunks and removing crap inside the water pump passages.

Verdict: $70 and both plastic elbows later, no leak.

I am now planning a trip to the old man's place to do the LIM anyway.

When you do the LIM gaskets, replace them again, lol. They're only like $8 and they like to break while coming out.
