93' Bonneville SSEI Smoking and running rough

Post by catladykaren »

My 93' Bonneville SSEI just started to run rough and hesitate when giving gas. It Idles fine. When driving there is some smoking and that all at once there will be a lot of blackish smoke. It than will stop and run fine. I have already given it a complete tune up. Can running with regular unleaded gas have an impact like this?

When the PCM detects enough knock, it will dump in extra fuel and cut the timing back creating black smoke out the tailpipes (mostly unburnt fuel). Definately only run premium gas.

93 octane cost more but your mpg will go up so in the long run it all comes out the same in the end plus your car will run better..

a boosted engine needs higher octane to run properly and avoid engine damage

thanks Is there anything that will help in the mean time? Or just run high octane?

Take it easy on the gas until you get a good tank of premium in there.

Depends on how much is in your tank right now. If you only have 1/4 tank, filling with premium will dilute it and it may even out. If it's 3/4 - full, perhaps an octane boost attitive will help?
I ran regular gas in my car once, and only because the station was sold out of premium and I was on empty. I will never do it again.

No, octane boosters don't do anything. Run the tank as low as possible, and fill with premium. I ran one tank of regular through my 00 before I knew premium was the only thing I should run. It ran like crap, too.

I just took the car and had a diagnostic test done. The Master Flow sensor is bad. Wll be replacing that soon.

No more unleaded gas for me. Only premium.

THANKS!!
