98 SE stalling

Post by SirVd »

My 98 bonneville will stall, after it's all warmed up, if I don't keep my foot on the accelerator. It has been taken into a couple of shops, who have not been able to diagnose the problem. I have also hooked it up to a diagnostic machine myself, and if I remember correctly, the only code that it pulled was for the mass airflow sensor, but I could be wrong. Regardless, I checked the MAS. It has been suggested by my more mechanical-minded friends that it could be the idle control valve, or that it really has to be something electrical. Any suggestions?

Try unplugging the MAF sensor & see if it still stalls.

Was this problem fixed? If so what was it ? My 1992 SE is starting to surge then stall once in a while at idle, I got under the hood and can hear like a vacuum release every 7 seconds or so. I also found out if I remove the vacuum line from the fire wall with the engine off I hear the FFFFT as if air is coming out. Then the car runs smooth until it seems something fills back up with air and again I start hearing the pressure release every 7 seconds or so & it starts running like crap again, it surges a lot and sometimes will stall, I replaced every place I could see a cracked line. Mostly just the ends where the connections are made of soft sponge type rubber. Any ideas? Advice will be greatly appreciated. Also I will post what ever the fix is not just go away when I get what I need, never to be heard from again. God that pisses me off BIG TIME !!! but I guess you can tell when the advice worked, because the posts usually end there!!
Thanks ahead of time
