water pump recommedations

Post by pmicaza »

hi,

i have been intermittently hearing a very "dry" sound coming from the engine and i pulled the belts yesterday to check the water pump. yup, seems wiggly. i have the time to change it this week and wonder if there is a preferred replacement water pump to use or if any unit from a jobber is fine ? also, is there any other items to change "while i am there"? idlers?

tia,

I'm not sure what a "Dry Sound" sounds like. But if in fact it is your WP, you can't go wrong with an OE Delco unit. I believe they come with one of the better gaskets on the market as well. Obviously you're going to be changing the Coolant.

This is a good time to change the thermostat as well as the V-belt.

NEW Delco OE pumps are definitely by far the best I've encountered. I've seen some real big issues arise quickly with most reman issues, and even NEW NAPA Gold pumps....can't hurt to remember that the delco ones generally go 100k+ without an issue.

Go with the Delco brand, I had a Autozone pump and It lasted on 30k or so. This type of project is the one you want to only do once every couple of years. :beerchug:
