This is a completely opinionated threat. post your opinions on it.

I just wanted to get a sense of what you guys get for your car. What i mean by "what you get" is what kind of bull you get for it. Either it being a old boat oldsmo-junker like mine, or maybe even a bonneville? I was sitting in the work parking lot tonight. There's me (99 oldsmobile 88) , a grand am 3.4 ram air GT (fenders sort of bent up. some interior spots he painted red) No engine work done to it. and a protege (aftermarket rims. wing,) So were sitting there talkin about our cars and, as always, my car comes up. They sit there and bash on me for putting money into my car, its slow, and about how much their cars can blow me out of the water. What im asking is, does anyone here else get *shoot* for putting money into their car? Supercharged or not, its still like.. an older body style, ya know? A phrase I got was "Ya know, your putting all your money into this car, and its still a oldsmobile. a granny car."

Just wondering who else gets *shoot* for driving a older car thats supped up regardless of mods.

Heh...with the money I dump into mine...people that know what's been put in range from I like my car to why don't you buy something newer. I'm also known as "Bonneville boy" by a few friends...I could care less...my car keeps driving and kickin a$$ while others break down...

1st off, this is not a mechanical issue, I expect this thread to be moved pretty soon

2nd, I get flak for driving my big boat like it is a sports car. I don't get much more than that though.

That's so true. I wore my shirt to school for the first time last year and people gave me a ton of crap about it. They don't give me crap about my car because a lot of them wish they had a car as nice as mine, lol.

People who know me don't give me much crap since they know I work hard on it and spend way less on repairs than they do. People who don't know me give me a little crap until I tell them what kind of fuel mileage I can wring out of the car.

The random people on the highway who give me crap find out what it's like to be ignored.

I don't get any crap about driving a 20 year old car (I'm usually the one to make light of it.) Come to think of it, I don't get crap about much of anything. Perhaps I just look mean, or the crowd I run with have enough of their own problems.

jdronzek, just for your future knowledge...you should have no trouble outrunning a Protege...I don't know what they've got up their pipe but Protege's aren't fast.

You might even be able to give the Grandammit a run for it's money if it's an auto or the driver is really crappy with a stick, definitely so if you were modded. Despite their outward appearance Grandammit GT's aren't really all that quick either.

Myself? Yep, I've caught hell for owning it, for modding it, and what have you. Most people think it's cool just cause you don't see it that often, and I'm not real boastful about it. If people ask, I tell them what I've done to it and very nearly always get a positive response.

For those that haven't asked, or just otherwise, most stop giving me hell as soon as they sit in the seats. Old person's car or not, they are *dang* comfortable. And if that doesn't work, the 3rd - 1st gear direct downshift when I floor it and the resulting kick back in the seat is usually enough to shut them up.

Sometimes I get hell for it being FWD, but then I have my truck too.

I get crap all the time on the local racing club, but only one guy that's ridden in it has ever given me crap, and he's a two-faced @$$hat...on the street, I hardly ever get noticed other than glances at it because of the loud exhaust. When someone notices the gauges and asks about it, the usually think it's pretty cool, if for nothing more than the novelty value of having a modified Grandpa car.

That's exactly what happened here. I got crap for it until they sat in it. Still got a little crap for it occasionally after that though. But after getting the SSEi, they've all shut up for good.

Ahh yes, I get alot of crap for that too. But I don't mind, people just don't understand.

I caught some crap for buying the 88 SSE for $300 and throwing $3200 into it but I wanted it. It was for noone else's benefit. It still runs like a top though and will spin the tires off the line every time. Since I've done more of the body work I don't hear anything anymore. Nobody has said anything bad about the 01 SSEI.

I dont get crap, I get compliments with regards to ride, MPG, and overall condition considering its 16 years old with 235K running on its original tranny. Then again, I hang around with the older crowd.
