leaking heater core.

Hey guy's, just spent 500.00 on new waterpump & crank sensor due to both being bad now I find heater core is also leaking. Need to buy some time to save up more money for this repair. Can I bypass heater core with short pc of hose until a later time or cooler weather? Thanks.

Yes, you can link the heater hoses together while it's warm, it won't effect anything. You might have to get a bit creative, but the parts should only be a few bucks.

Heater cores are usually around $30 if you've got the guts to take apart your dash. I've had it happen to me on two cars I've owned, a 1986 Olds Cutlass Ciera Brougham and a 1988 Pontiac 6000. Both of those cars were on the same platform, and they both blew their heater cores right around 120k. By the time I was done the second, I was a pro at putting heater cores in. Just label your bolts, don't get mad and rip stuff out, take notes, and you'll be fine. The only difference with your car is that it has airbags, mine didn't at the time. Just disconnect the battery and you should be fine.

And like the last guy said, you can just bypass it for the time being. I've done that too.

The last heater core I did was on an 1988 Olds Regency Brougham. Man that was a job. The hoses had to fit through the fire wall holes first in order to get the core onto the hoses. Once I got the hoses on I could push the whole mess back thru the holes. It was such a tight fit it was the only way. Then I was able to get the the clamps on.Get yourself a pair of long needle nose plyers (10" or more). That save me a lot of time. Oh and give yourself the whole weekend to do it. That way you can take your time and think about each piece of the puzzle. good luck!

Hey guy's, thanks for the help. Turns out the heater core was OK. Just a lot of water comming off the AC condinser and running down the firewall. Bypassed the heater core and still had water problem. I can live with water not comming out the cooling system.
