Im looking at a 2000 SSEi with 200,000 miles on it but looks to be in good shape from the pictures

If you can find a lower mile unit, avoid it. After 200k miles, every car is going to need a bunch of TLC.

Re: 2000 SSEi w/200k
Most cars after 200,000 miles fall into the $1000 and under price range. A well maintained 3800 might have a little more value, but most non-collector cars carry a pretty low value after 200,000 miles. Even with a good engine you should be thinking about transmission, CV joints, and anything that wears.

Re: 2000 SSEi w/200k
I just want to make clear when I said *most* that I mean "more than half." Clearly there are a lot of vehicles that will command more than $1000 after 200,000 miles, and I really don't want this thread to devolve into a bunch of people saying what they got for various cars.00Beast wrote:I got $3200 for my Tahoe w/ 208k on it.

Re: 2000 SSEi w/200k
IMHO ive had cars that high of mileages but they were in the mid 90's (90,01,95) but to catch 200K in under 10 years that puts it at about roughly 22K a year...the average mileage a year for most cars are in the low teens
and to have a car (even one as good and durable as a 00+) still a car that suffered that many miles that fast is gonna need ALOT of TLC if your willing to repair this car no matter what it cost and putting everything you have into it then go for it
but if your on a somewhat budget like me and the rest of america is due to the economy unless this car is below 1000K-1500K i say pass
just about a penny of my two cents

Re: 2000 SSEi w/200k
Just another bit of anecdotal advice: My Dad liked to by not-very-old, but high-mileage used cars. He figured he got the best deal that way, with lots of discount for the high mileage, but since the bulk of the miles had to be highway, the wear would mostly be on replaceable items like brakes, tires, belts, and that sort of thing. My own observation of his purchases is that he had higher than average maintenance costs, and the cars didn't last very long. My last two car purchases were 2-year old used cars at moderate prices and they've been long-lived performers. The thing I've come away with from seeing things both ways is that I'd personally recommend against buying very high mileage used cars and look for something with less miles.

From personal experience. I sold my Barely running right 14.2 MPG 93 with 207k for $1450.

Re: 2000 SSEi w/200k
ok here you go I ran a 2000 SSEi through NADA and got this:

hope this helps
add $250 for a Power Sunroof if it has one and subtract $75 if it doesn't have a power seat

Re: 2000 SSEi w/200k
NADA and Kelley are not very accurate in a depressed economy. They can't adjust prices quickly enough. Price similar cars locally IF you can find what they actually sold for.
I'd drop 1500 from that NADA quote above for starters in negotiating. The economy makes people shy away from larger luxury type cars. Especially those that require Premium fuel. That's another bargaining chip for you to throw on the table.
