Thought some of you might want to see my Bonneville painted and ready for reassembly. There are a few dust nibs and a little orange peel here and there, nothing that a wet sand and buff won't cure. All mechanicals are done, runs and shifts like a dream, although I can't get it much past 35mph in its present condition.

That paint looks really good!

Hmmm....I spy RPO N10...don't see too many of those.

Dual tip exhaust... Yes, came from the factory like that. I understand that the entire system is a little more free flowing, I don't know that for sure, but it has a little rumble to it, always has. Funny thing, I thought this N10 was the norm. Way back in Dec'92 when my folks bought the car, the dealer had 6 of these, all exactly the same, except two were black, two were green, two were red. Essentially a 93 SE with the RPO that made it an SLE. Really nice car, just enought chrome, leather, etc. It seems like these cars were all over my hometown. Anyway, I bought the car from my folks at 70k, my wife drove it to 130k, where undercarriage rust took it over, then we bought the minivan and I drove Bonny till the tranny died. The interior was spotless. People always say that, but trust me, this was was showroom. When I have it installed I will post another picture to prove it. I bought another bonny of the same year on ebay, paid 200 bucks for it, and when I got it home I saw that it was rust free. The brake lines were still shiny. And talk about luck, it was the identical car (right down to the N10) except it also had the sport handling package, which gave it the F41, two flow steering, and traction control. So the project was started. Being that the cars were so similar, near exact, it made the project quite easy from a parts-swap perspective. I had to alter the main engine wiring harness a little, I used the harness from my original car, and it was lacking the wiring for the temp sensor in the tranny and the solenoid for the two flow steering, I just took it from the other harness and inserted the pin in the right spot on the connector. The only other thing I did differently, I added steering wheel buttons. Ebay wheel buttons, ebay airbag clock spring with the added circuit for the buttons, then had the pigtail to the column harness. And oh yeah, I have a flawless set of chrome torque stars to put on. Gotta have chrome wheels with a black body. The gold lace I am keeping, for sure, since they are the original wheels that came with the car. Mike

When I first saw this post I didn't realize you were doing that yourself in the garage. Awesome work!

Such a clean car. =D>

Talk about weight reduction. It would really haul if you had the engine in it.
Very funny looking all stripped down. :laughing3:

Actually, the engine is in it now, the pictures are not necessarily in proper sequence. I made sure I had ALL the mechanicals done before I painted it. It is amazing how light it is. The rear end is at full extension. I drove it enough up and down the driveway and on my lonely country road to get 3rd gear, I wanted to test most of the tranny the best I could. It was my first tranny rebuild. And yes, doing it in my garage, all by myself. Mike

Just curious - based on what I am doing to it, and what it is, how much might this be worth? No, I'm not selling it, my 14 year old daughter wants me to will it to her. (Nice that she's already thinking about when the ol' man drops) Mike

In market value, worth no more than excellent book. It only has loads of value in a personal, or collector's sense. Someday, in perfect condition, it will probably be worth something, but currently, it is still just a restored 15 year old car.

But, in my personal opinion...I'm in love with it so far. :sad5: If I had the money burning a hole in my pocket, I wouldn't think twice about parting with its original MSRP for it when finished.

You're doing an amazing job, thank you for keeping us updated on the progress! :)

I've always been told that when you change the color of a car it brings down the book value.
title will say one color and ... well. :)

Yes, changing the color will mess with things. There are a few things that wont match the title, oh well, I have both titles, nothing done with bad intent. And again, I don't much care, because I don't intend to sell it. I was just curious. When I die, if there are issues, it will be for someone else to worry about. Thanks for the replies! Mike

Actually... what will happen when I go to insure this? Obviously it will be a toy, so it will get a really cheap rate (and I'm 43 years old) - but if I wreck it, how much will I get for it?

depends if you put full coverage on it or not. but dont expect anything more than KBB value, which isnt going to be more than $1500

Next time you have to go renew your plates, I'd let the license bureau know that the car has changed color. They will then change the information in the computer and on your registration that way when a cop pulls you over he doesn't think you have false/ficticious plates.
