I just bought a worn '97 Bonneville SE with H4U and L67. These are the SLE and supercharged options. Usually L67 came on the SSEi. Did they make very many of the SEs with L67s? Is there a database which shows how many? I read an archived post from Chris in Wisconsin on May 22, 2011 with many pictures of a black supercharged SLE with torque star wheels and a cloth top( I wonder if the top is a factory option or if it came from a Pontiac dealership in South Florida where that kind of modification is popular). He said that 354 came with the H4U and L67 combination, but I can't confirm that with other sources. Mine has big "SUPERCHARGED" emblems on each front door and the trunk lid, though I don't see them on his photos. I have the same "basic style" dash board, the one without a boost gauge , trip computer and electronic compass. I also don't have steering wheel controls, but do have a sunroof. I've seen another post with productions figures for many years and a footnote that in 1996, only 367 Bonneville SEs had the H4U and L67. The H4U SLE trim was necessary before you could order the L67 so they always appear together. It would be cool if my car was slightly unusual, though I doubt it will ever be a show piece. I really bought it as a back up for a Park Avenue Ultra, but like its sportier style. The quality level is OK, though not as finely detailed as on the Park Avenue. You could order more gizmo options on the Bonneville than the Park Avenue in the mid 90s. |

They aren't unheard of, but not abundant. The cloth top is an aftermarket add-on. The stock supercharged emblems are pretty low-key, so I'm guessing what you have is an add-on as well. |

I'm sure everything on it is stock, including the "SUPERCHARGED" emblems in silver letters against a black background, if I remember right. I've seen a picture of a '95 SE with those same emblems. The letters aren't quite as large as those on the SSEi, but large enough to not be subtle. I didn't like how they mildly restyled Bonneville around 1996: the fenders and grill, trunk lid and tail lights of the '92 looked better. The '97 trunk lid is kind of bulbous compared with '92. The '92 rear styling reminded me of Avanti. |

hi, you can check the vin on trans, block and below the windscreen - I doubt they will match. |

That's pretty cool. I also have a SLE/L67 car but the L67 is gone and not much is stock. |

95naSTA, I copied your tutorial on lowering the 92-99. The driver door in one of your pictures has the same SUPERCHARGED emblems which are on both of my doors and the trunk lid. You had a link to a YouTube video with how your new headers sounded. I think it's the same car, but the 3800 looked like the non-supercharged Series II with a plastic upper intake manifold. So was that '95 originally a supercharged version, or did you get the emblems off of your '97 SLE that had the L67? I need to look up all of the RPO codes on my spare tire cover. I do see the H4U and NV8 and L67 codes, but I'd like to know what kind of radio was on the car, since it came without the original. I can have the VIN decoded, as well, but I think the drive train and everything else is original. The previous owner bought it with 125,000 miles in 2012 from a long time friend who might be the original owner and he told everything he knew about it. Mine also has the gold cross-lace alloy wheels that look a little like what came on a '79 Trans Am. |

I guess you made your badges sound like something bigger than normal. But anyway, enjoy the car. Being an SE, it's lighter than a typical SSEi, so it should be quicker! |

I thought about the weight being a little lighter without the 12 way adjustable driver and passenger front seats and adjustable level ride suspension, automatic trunk lid pulldown, Bose system amplifier and other goodies. I checked the VIN code to be sure it matches the L67 drivetrain, and it does: 8th digit is a "1" instead of a "K" for the L36 and the 4th and 5th digits are "HX" for being the SE model. I'm surprised they aren't "HY" for the SLE because the H4U package with leather buckets and console was the SLE upgrade. The VIN for the L67 equipped SLE which Chris posted in 2011 has the same codes. The 2000 and up Bonnevilles have the same Series II engine, but are built on the longer wheelbase, heavier Aurora platform, so '97 through '99 might be the quickest V6 powered versions. Speculating on the NorthStar version is probably forbidden. Zero to sixty in the '97 should be around 7.5 seconds, only 1 to 1.5 seconds off what a '69 Grand Prix will do with 400 cu in engine. I remember how the GP felt when I got to ride in one in high school so I think I'll enjoy mine if I can keep on top of the maintenance, which burdened the previous owner. |

Yep. It’s the same car. Long story short, I bought this car without an engine and put in the L36 from my previous 95 SLE. Dental floss or fishing line usually does the trick on emblems. |
