You and you're magical prices, lol.

Sweet progress! I guess the car doesn't fit in the garage straight?

I want to be able to close the garage door without moving the lift. Sideways was the only way.

This is my practice tranny.

Not much wear on the fourth clutch shaft assembly

but the chains are shot... there is supposed to be at least 3.2mm of clearance here:

and there is literally ZERO clutch material left on the 4th gear clutches:

That looks insane. Do you have clutches with some material whose pictures you could post? I'd appreciate it.

Maybe someone else has a better picture, but here is what new ones look like.

BTW, here is what a failed 4th clutch shaft looks like: This is what I am hoping and expecting to be wrong with the Bonneville's trans.

Those 4th steels from the 97 GS practice trans are pretty burnt. I'm betting the guy liked to punch it on the freeway, going in and out of OD a lot.

And those chains are BAAAAAD...total leadfoot  Did they leave marks in the case? If the 2000 SE's chains are as bad as that, I've got a used set that, while slightly stretched, are WAY better than those.

The apply plate (part 528) doesn't look too bad, save it. Also, grab that reluctor wheel off the drive sprocket if the pins are tight, in case the 2000 SE's reluctor wheel pins are not. If all your reluctor wheels are FUBAR, I have a good one.

Save the plastic thrust washers off the drive and driven sprockets, in case they are better than the ones on the 2000 trans.

You can see wear on the 4th clutch hub, but it's not too bad, actually.

How do the splines on the pumpshaft look? If pumpshaft OK, save that too so you can use whichever's better.

According to the parts catalog, the OEM 4th clutch friction thickness is 0.070" new; got calipers?

No marks in the case, but ya, its still BAAAAAD!

The pins are tight, I'll keep it.

It looks OK, I'll save it also.

You are talking about #501 on page 28, right? Looks like 0.0685-0.0690". Is that supposed to wear?

Its only 3 hours man, and I'm guessing you would be better than my girlfriend at snatching tools (although I must admit, shes *dang* good!)

Here is where I got tonight. Then sun is going down, and will be set in about an hour, so I figured it was a good quitting time.

The biggest issues I ran into were the brake lines. I ended up being able to just bend (VERY slightly, not even close to damage) most of them so I didn't have to disconnect anything.

And here everything is supported by old railroad ties, so I won't need to worry about anything collapsing (even though I have the jackstands under there also.

Tomorrow I'll have the side cover off, dig into the trans as far as I did with the practice one, and then as long as things look good inside, I'll start putting it back together.

Excellent pictures Haro! =D>

Watch those brake lines.

So is that as far as you are going to drop it?

Why not pull the whole thing out and clean it up good. :bhuh:

Brake lines were the most watched thing during the lift, they are fine now that nothing is moving anymore.

Thats all the further I need to drop the subframe to get the side cover off.

Its SOOO much more work to pull the whole engine/trans, and there is so much more stuff to disconnect. I did all that you see pictured in about 2 hours.

So could one rebuild the entire transaxle in that position?

No, not recommended. I am not removing anything more than what you see on my "practice trans". I am not removing the Reverse and Forward Servos, Pan and Filter, Accumulator Assembly, VSS, Differential, and Output shaft. That's why this option was taken ;)
