Yeah.....the solenoids are probably toast. Started slipping in first. Had it almost completely kill itself twice. Crunching and screeching isn't a nice sound. Nonetheless I love the car and wanted to know the difficulty in rebuilding it myself. I have rebuilt turbo 350's for my 69 camaro. but a front wheel drive tranny I have never touched and have no idea what i am getting into.

Eventually having my Bonnie RWD would be nice, but thats a ways away. Any advice would be much appreciated!

Buy a ATSG rebuild manual to get a better idea for yourself. That's what I did before I tackled my 60-e.

Other than the chain and differential, they aren't any different than a 4L60e, and there are tear down and rebuild videos online...

I think there's a pretty in depth write up floating around the depths of this forum as well. Pics may no longer work since photobucket is down.

+1 on the ATSG manual or factory manual. If you have the patience for rebuilding older automatic transmissions, you'll know what to watch for on these 4t65 units. The forward drum teflon seals and seals inside the input drum come to mind as the 'you better pay attention' things.
