Post subject:  Crate Engine for 1998 Bonneville

Well last month when we drove to South Carolina to see the Eclipse the oil pump crapped out and possibly spun the front bearing while doing so. After 2 trips to my mechanic and $2100 dollars later the oil pressure still drops and it sounds like a washing machine after less than 10 miles and 15 min of run time. So 2 questions: does anyone have any idea what could be going on, and does anyone know of a reputable crate motor supplier? The rest of the car is in superb shape and I don't want to get rid of it.

Thanks

I haven't seen a 'crate engine' for a 3800, assuming you're talking about a 'new' engine.

Usually the most cost-effective options are to either get a good used one from a salvage yard (with a warranty), or get your engine rebuilt by an engine builder.

I see Chevrolet crate 3.8L but I don't know if it would "work". Got the name of an engine rebuilder but don't know if they work on Pontiac engines. The search goes on.

Basically any engine rebuilder should be able to work on any GM engine, the 3800 being a Buick engine anyway.

I just found this, RPO code is the one for the Buick 3800:

Appreciate the info, I have been told a that Chevy motors will not work and the info in the link doesn't mention 90's Bonneville. I do admit I know next to nothing on issues like this.
