The latest recall, mainly in North America, includes: the 1997-2004 Pontiac Grand Prix and Buick Regal; the 2000-2004 Chevrolet Impala; the 1998 and 1999 Chevrolet Lumina and Oldsmobile Intrigue; and the 1998-2004 Chevrolet Monte Carlo. All have 3.8-liter V6 engines.

Why just the W body 3800s? Was there a previous recall for the H, or G bodies too?

I'll roll with the timestamp theory.

I think it's crazy that every platform didn't get recalled. Maybe the H, E, C, G body owners are the kind of people that replace their valve cover gaskets when they started to leak? What's this, car maintenance, gaskets leaking?

When I put the new ones in mine I RTV'd them to the valve cover with a 1/16" bead, and put a film of RTV over the exposed gasket. And they don't leak on any of the 3800's I have/had.

I would love for a '93 Bonneville to make that recall list, have a field day with the service guys trying to figure out what is going on.

I honestly feel that a valve cover gasket should be regular maintenance.. if it leaks at 150,000 miles it should be your problem.. lol..

I tend to install new felpro valve cover gaskets when I do the lower gaskets.. Just makes sense..

Matt, I would love to see the look on their faces when they pop the hood.. lmao

Yes! That would be funny to see them give the 93 a once over, haha.

According to the article this is the second recall for this gasket on the W bodies. Seems weird that they would omit the other platforms not once, but twice when they all have the same issue. With today's sue happy mentality I wouldn't think GM would gamble on demographics between the platforms. I wonder what else could be their reason.

Just the wtf moment they have with the manual trans would be worth it. But then to see their face when they take a gander at the turbo, priceless!
