hey, does anyone know what the life expectancy of a fuel pump on a 1993 ssei? ive got 171k on it, and ive noticed if i push it over 4 pounds of boost the engine sputters and i dont go anywhere. im suspecting its a fuel problem because about 2 years ago, when i pushed it over 0 pounds of boost it would do the same thing, it would sputter and no go anywhere, but i got the ORIGINAL, yes original fuel filter which had 165k on it lol, changed i got back up to 4 pounds of boost, so that is where my theory comes from about the fuel pump, thanks

Replace the fuel filter again and check your fuel pressure.

ok ill check the fuel pressure, bc i did have a problem in the summer, every time i went to get gas, and i mean every time, the engine refused to turn over, so i called my mechanic and he suggested that i hold the pedal to the floor and turn over the engine and that worked, it was suspected that there was a fuel lock leak which wouldnt allow the system to pressurize to push the fuel, and i got that fixed so its gotta be a fuel pressure problem. thats a good idea 00Beast, im going to jump on that right away. now would my mechanic know what the correct pressure should be bc i have next to no expertise when dealing with anything fuel related. thanks

A fuel filter won't affect fuel pressure at idle or key on. It will primarily be a problem only at wide open throttle (WOT). However, if it's over a couple years old, replace it. Cheap part, but don't expect it to solve your problem.

To answer your questions, my 93 SSEi fuel pump lasted 120,000 miles. It didn't fail, but I was outperforming it. My 95 is starting to get weak, I'll replace it this year at 140,000+.

Mine was replaced at 100k miles. It now has 272K miles and I am holding my breath waiting for it to fail. -BC

While I am thinking of it, if you make a habit of running your tank low on fuel, you could run the risk of shortening the life of the fuel pump. It is lubricated by the fuel. - BC

well 1oldman, i hardly every keep my tank near empty bc my 93 gets such bad fuel mileage that i dont wanna ever risk running out of gas. and willwren i did replace the fuel filter at 165k and thats when i went from 0 pounds of boost to 4 pounds, but i also herd from another car enthusiast that it might also be the fuel injectors. does anyone know some decent but cheep fuel injectors? and does anyone know some awesome expensive fuel injectors bc i only want the best in my baby, thats why i only run shell premium in her. im asking for 2 different kinds just in case i cant afford the expensive ones. now from anyone's opinion, which would be cheaper, replacing a fuel pump or replacing 6 injectors that are decent but cheep. thanks for the help

The fuel filter has no effect on boost.

There is no such thing as 'cheap' fuel injectors. How about you start a topic about your poor fuel mileage in the proper section, and let's not throw parts at it and hope they work?

well willwren im not concerned about my poor fuel efficiency, im concerned with this boost problem, i am thinking that the reason why i can only get up to 4 pounds of boost and back before i changed the fuel filter only get 0 pounds, is because there is a lack of fuel going to the engine, the supercharger is sending the required air to the engine but the fuel system cant keep up with the increase in air bc its being held back by either the aging fuel pump or dirty fuel injectors.

I have never seen a fuel injector on any 3800 since 2002 so dirty they restricted fuel or affected mileage or power. When injectors fail in our engines, they flat FAIL, and do not function at all.

It sounds to me like you need to take a methodical approach to your problem in the proper section of the Forum, starting with the basics.
