what are you guys' preferred methods of relieving fuel pressure? Is it better to relieve it through the valve on the fuel rail, or to remove the fuel pump relay and turn the car over?

I'm changing my fuel filter tomorrow, and just thought I'd ask before I make a mess haha.

Put a rag over the schreider valve on the fuel rail, and push down on the schreider valve with a small screwdriver.

that's what I was planning on doing, I just figured I'd get a little insight before hand to see if that is easier than pulling the relay. my brother changed the filter on his Lumina last weekend, and didn't relieve the pressure first. He got a nice little surprise needless to say.

Thanks a lot!

Either way will do the same thing. Removing the relay is a little less messy.

When I did my fuel filter I did not let any pressure off at all. I changed the filter after letting the car sit over night, and just wrapped a rag around it. I barely had any back spray.

One of the the other gear heads said the same thing as well.

I wish I could do that, but unfortunately I have chem class in the morning, so I'll definitely have to relieve the pressure from the line haha. I have to change the belt tensioner on my girlfriends car after my filter, so I want her car to be cool, so I can't drive it to class instead of my car. Otherwise letting it sit sounds like a good plan
